FreeBSD, Linux, Unix. One of these or possibly another must be considered the best KickA.. OS out there.

You probably can't afford commercial UNIX to be competitive in web hosting. So your choice boils down to Linux or one of the BSDs. I suggest to pick one more familiar to you or your buddies. You can always switch to another without a lot of hassles.
