One of the clients of my Dotster reseller account has decided to move his domains away. Things happen.
But the bad thing that's happening isn't just that I'm losing the business, it's that Dotster is sending emails notifying my client that the domain needs to be renewed, even weeks after it's been transferred to another reseller.
And my client is replying to me for all of these renewal notices, because they come from my return address. And he's getting angrier each time. And I don't blame him.
I have two questions:
1) Is Dotster trying to get the domains back or is this a glitch in their system as they tell me? I'm having trouble believing them.
2) Can Dotster somehow actually cancel these domains for non-payment after they've been moved? If that happens I've got an ugly lawsuit on my hands for more money than I can ever make.

Are you positive that the domains have been transferred to another registrar? Meaning, could they still be with dotster maybe through another reseller? Also, were the domains due to expire soon after the transfer was initiated? I've heard of some registrars requiring renewal within a certain time frame.

I suspect it's just a billing glitch. I've had similar experience when domains are transferred within days of expiry. Have you contacted Dotster to fix this?

I am currently in the process of transferring my domains from Mydomain.com (which is part of Dotster) to Total Registrations (a UK-based registrar).
I am having exactly the same problem as the OP. Days or even weeks after they have been transferred away my domains are still showing in my Mydomain.com account, and Mydomain is still sending expiry warnings and expiry notices to the admin contact address. I've complained time and time again, but they don't seem to be willing/able to fix this bug. All that has ever happened in response to complaints is that they manually removed domains from my account with them.
Most of the domains are my own, but there are some customer domains, and just like the OP I have had angry emails/phone calls from customers who had been wrongly informed by Mydomain.com that their domains had just expired... when the truth is that they were happily sitting in my account with Totalreg with an expiry date a full year away.
