My experience is very limited with hosting. At the moment I'm using Total Choice who I am very happy with, but for seo purposes I'm looking for a UK webhost with servers based in the UK.
My requirements are basic:
Shared Hosting
Apache
Cpanel
MySQL
I have small site with a wordpress blog. I would prefer small reliable customer focused UK host.
Thanks

If your needs are very minimalistic as I am guessing they are (since you don't state any resource usage or any issues) you shouldn't have trouble finding a UK host. Please keep in mind that hosting in the UK is likely going to be more expensive than hosting in the United States.

With the weak pound, that's not entirely true - The gap between a $ and £ is minimal these day's.

I'm not talking about currency exchange but simply the fact that is generally more expensive to obtain a server in the UK than it is in the US which results in higher operating costs and higher base prices in most cases. I was speaking from the provider's side more than the customers side which has a trickle-down effect.
If I only pay $100/mo for a server and in the UK you pay $200/mo for the same server (not talking about currency exchange) then you're going to either have to charge your customers more or put more customers on the box to make a similar profit.
Now of course if the provider colocates in the UK as apposed to a provider leasing in the US then the UK hosting may be a little cheaper, I was just saying mostly not to be surprised if UK hosting is a bit more expensive.

Some UK hosts worth looking at are:
EZPZHosting.co.uk (http://ezpzhosting.co.uk)
TSOHost.com (http://tsohost.com)
Clook.co.uk (http://clook.co.uk)
Unitedhosting.co.uk (http://unitedhosting.co.uk)
The first three listed use cpanel, Unitedhosting use Parallels Pro.

UK / US pricing is comparable, there is no real price difference.
So as the OP states he would be better of getting Uk hosting.

My initial searches found that UK hosting was more expensive, however TSOHost.com had a lite package which is the cheapest I've seen....seem like nice folk also. Thanks for the recommendations.

So you have made your choice? If not, then I would recommend you to take a look at webhost.uk.net (http://www.webhost.uk.net)
Their packages are quite cheap and offer hosting in datacenter located in London.
I will be signing up for their linux vps package in the coming week as the datacenter being in London would be helpful for my websites accessibility and SEO purpose.
