I think Communitech.Net used to or maybe still does use them. If they still use them you can check out their MRTG graphs which they make public.

Update:

Savvis had no issues with bankruptcy.

We are currently in talks with them. So far seem rather interesting.

Umm...no, but their biggest backer/customer does, and Savvis only has enough cash on hand to last until July:

If they don't secure extra funding, they may wind up out of cash as well.

Of course if you talk to their sales people, they will tell you they will have no problem securing extra funding...but that's what E.Spire thought too .

Besides this rather huge problem in company stability.

They do offer some dam good products and great prices..

Not that their great products or prices will do you any good if they shut down in July. Your best bet if you are looking for Data Center conectivity is to stick with the tier 1 providers like Qwest, Level 3, Sprint, or UUNET. They may not be the cheapest, but they are not going to run out of money, and you are going to acheive the broadest connectivity.

SAVVIS REACHES PAYMENT AGREEMENTS WITH BRIDGE INFORMATION SYSTEMS, WORLDCOM AND SPRINT


HERNDON, VA, March 23, 2001 -- SAVVIS Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: SVVS), a premier global network services provider, announced today that it has reached a settlement agreement with Bridge Information Systems Inc. (BRIDGE) which provides for continued payments by BRIDGE to SAVVIS for networking services. In conjunction with this agreement, SAVVIS has resolved its payment disputes with WorldCom, Inc. and Sprint Corp. The stipulation was agreed to by all parties and the order was signed by Judge David McDonald in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in St. Louis.

Savvis is a Tier 1 provider by the way.

Savvis also happens to be going into Colo.com; and we are liking what they are saying right now. Also current tests are showing amazing speed on there network, with no latency.

i would be worried about them shutting down in July. Just like I would be worried about PSINet shutting down, or any of the half dozen providers that are in trouble. I hope they don't, but I would not want to risk my customers on that hope.

If they are a Tier 1 provider why are they buying connectivity from Sprint and Worldcom? Tier 1 providers lease their own fiber, and turn up their own circuits. Tier 2 providers buy connectivity from other providers.

Not to defend Savvis, but they have there own network.

Run a trace on http://www.savvis.com and you will see that they are own there own network.

I am very concerned, but I dont concider them in as much trouble as PSinet, actually I dont concider them even in the same situation.

We are specualative of them, but yet optimistic.

Any company working out payment agreements through orders signed in any bankruptcy court is a Red Flag in my book. A business has to be in a lot of trouble to get to that point.

Do what you will, of course, but generally speaking, the rule of thumb I use personally is to not put any portion of my business in a position where it is risked by the financial issues of my suppliers.

For my gift shop, that means I don't pre-pay product orders with a company that has financial questions. (I will pre-pay with stable companies) Everything is paid at time of shipment with a credit card, or it's shipped on terms. Thus I am protected.

For my website, that means hosting with companies that I am confident have a good financial backing and who use reliable backbone services. In the event that the funding affects the service, I have everything set up to be able to "jump ship" in less than 6 hours with a minimum of lost fees and service downtime. At most I will lose a months' hosting fees and be offline 72 hours. I consider this an acceptable risk for this aspect of my business.

I would not, however, put my server on Savvis, not with what I have been able to research in the last 24 hours. Not that it matters of course, because we've already determined the users on this board are not valid potential customers and our opinons don't actually mean anything.
