    Talking new hosting

hi, about a month ago i started my hosting company visionhost.net, i paid 2 months up front for the dedicated server and after this first month i have 1 paying customer, coming on to getting a big deal with a 2nd. If i get this second customer (who is signing up for 6 months) i will have enough to go into the 3rd month of the dedi server, but i am worried i will not have enough money to continue the server after that.

How can i get more customers, i guess i need some kind of promotion, but how?

    Regards,
    Mike.

I think you should have started witha reseller account, or change to one now.
However if you dont want to do that try posting some special offers in the advertising forums and on other forums such as
    http://forums.webhostdir.com
    http://www.webhostchat.net
    http://www.sitepointforums.com
    the findsp forums on http://www.findsp.com
    http://www.talkhosting.com

Also edit your signature on forums to mention your hosting company. Getting wel known on a forum can help.
Is there a possibility that these two customers may tellother people? Word of mouth is one of the best ways of getting customers, so treat the ones you have like kings and they will tell other people.

    Second that motion

    I agree with tazd9t9.

We have been in business for 3 years and I can definetly tell you that you probably will become a statistic unless you have alot of financial backing to sustain the ded-server. Of course unless you are getting your box for really cheap.

We started out as a reseller for the first 2 years and then moved into multiple dedi-servers.

If you play it the right way, follow tazd9t9's advice and start posting and get yourself a reseller account somewhere. Plenty of reseller pacakges out there that have some awesome features for a fraction of the cost.

    Hope i could help!

Dedicated servers are not the way to go. There expensive for hardly any clients. Go to reseller NOW.

Sounds like you're dead in the water. Your costs will soon eat you up. You need some capital. See if you can borrow a few thousand to pay for your server costs over the next 3 to 6mths. By then you should have a client base big enought to pay for your server.

Or dump the dedicated server and get a reseller account. They'll only set you back $25/mth etc..

As i said go to a reseller account. If you really like dedicated servers, get one later. Get some clients and my advice is dont take loans.

This is some pretty valuable information. I am new to this community, but I can see that it is extremely beneficial. Thanks guys. I too started up my web hosting business. Lucky for me, some word of mouth referral have kept me alive for the first few months.
