I wanna know if upload media to server for streaming will slow your site down?
Reason is that I have a few audio books on my server for my members to listen to, and I have a feeling that my site is using more and more resources and its getting slower and slower each day.
Thanks!

It's possible that the server is getting slowed down. However, I think that it is more likely that the reason your experiencing slowness is because of people constantly downloading off your network. If this persists, then I would just recommend you upgrading the port speed of your server.

I think the question is also what kind of connection are you on. Are you on a dedicated server, a vps or shared hosting etc..

If you have the proper hosting platform, adding audio books to your web site shouldn't or wouldn't slow down your web site. The reason you might be seeing the slowdown is probably due to the server itself. Check with the web host maybe?

took about 10 seconds to load fully for me, aren't hostmonster servers on 100mbps uplink? there shouldn't be much of a problem, do you know what speed you are streaming with?
it could also be that it is slowing down the processor and memory, you should contact your host for more info on why it's slow, it may not be your fault at all since its a shared server

You could offload your streaming files to another provider.

The speed isn't that bad. I tried to download a 50mb file and the speed is about 500kb/s.
But when I check the server status, I saw that were using upto almost 50% of its memory. Is that what cause the slowness on the forum?
Thanks for reading and responding!

50% isn't bad, I have a server at home where I run private game servers and the memory used is around 70% when the servers are full and it doesn't cause lag at all
Not saying that it can't be the issue, I am just saying, it's not very likely to be the issue

The forum might be slow due to the size of the MySQL database... look into index columns.

The site loads fast here. Try disable the shout box because it takes much resources.

55 requests 376 KB (0 B from cache) 21.67s
The size of the page does, up to a point affect this, but it's still slow if you ask me.
For comparison, this is what I get for http://www.webhostingtalk.com/index.php
57 requests 414 KB (0 B from cache) 12.61s
I'm in Europe, both sites are in US.
