Hi,
As described in the title I need a paid monitoring service which provides sms alerts and tells SoftLayer immediately so they can investigate the issue and make what needed to bring the server online.
I like hyperspin.com service but it looks there is no way to send SoftLayer an automated notification because there is a need to open a ticket.
I can't be attendant at my office 24 hours so I need this service which alerts me with sms about the fail and simultaneously tells my provider so my server will not be down for a long time.
Do you have any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

Isn't Softlayer unmanaged? I doubt that they're going to be happy to receive your automated messages for this type of issue... have you discussed this with Softlayer first?

Yes, they provide a monitoring service but it is expensive ($50) and they don't send sms alerts.

That's not my point. My point is that I doubt they're going to be happy to receive automated messages every time your server goes down. Even with their own service, I don't think they respond. They aren't a managed provider. THAT is the part you need to discuss with them.

Yes, it is unmanaged but when there is a problem I open a standard ticket and they investigate the issue and bring the server online.
Is there a monitoring service which checks the server personally when it is down ? (and send sms alerts)

Thats why they have a $50 a month alert system. They are unmanaged, so even if you did find such a thing, I bet they would get quite annoyed. If it matters so much, just shell out the $50.

So what's the optimal solution in this case ?
How can I receive sms alert and someone else brings the server online ?

Why do you want SMS alerts, if the situation would be automatically be taken care of?

I never used SL's $50 Monitoring service, but I bet they create a ticket. Why lose rest over it, if SL has control of the situation? Find out in the morning

I can't see this being an issue, though it may be hard to code if their ticket system is SSL based as you'll need to use SSL to perform the HTTP POST query. But basically just have it submit a ticket.
Though what I'd do is make it alert you, and only submit a ticket if you authorize it. So the alert would sit in a queue that you go to then if it's not a false alarm or maintenance that you're aware of, you then click a button to send the ticket. This should be fairly easy to do with php/mysql. The ticket submission part depends on how complex their system is to implement. If they have email tech support that's your other option and much easier.
But just be sure they don't start getting lot of these that are false alarms.

For that cost you could spend a bit more and get a monthly management service from a server management firm in which generally that is all included.
Here is a good list: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/wiki/Companies_providing_server_management

Try to have server management company (Like PSM) take care of the server 24 X 7
(Or)
Go with some managed providers who provide 24 x 7 proactive monitoring and fixing the solution immediately.

I have been using the email option from softlayer to my iphone and was curious if you considered doing that method?

Theres a company called websitepulse that for a fee every month will actually attempt to login to your server and fix the processes that may be down. If your entire server is dead im sure they would work with you to resolve the issue. Softlayer may have helped you in a few instances where your server was dead but if your server is down to issues that aren't 'hardware' related they aren't going to fix anything, or at least aren't required to since it's all un-managed.
