Motherboard specification Compatibility

Will a PCI EXpress X16 video card work in a X16 2.0 motherboard slot.
Also will a PCI Express X1 card work in a X2 slot.
I think they will I just want a second opinion to confirm.

I believe it should work but you should get some more opinions just to be safe.

No, you can't. The voltage on PCI x16 2.0 is higher than on x16 1.0. However, 2.0 cards are backwards compatible and can be used in 1.0 slots, but never, should you throw a 1.0 card into a 2.0 slot. That is, if you want to keep it. It may work temporarily, but you'll blow the card before long.

Have you got anything to support that? I've not seen that mentioned anywhere else, everywhere else seems to imply both are backwards compatible (2.0 motherboard will work with 1.0 cards, 2.0 cards will work with 1.0 motherboard).
