Recommend a Cheap or Free Host
Hello
I am looking for a reliable webhost that is cheap or free. I don't want to pay more than $25.00 a year.
The webspace can be very small as I only want to use it as a front page or a redirect page to my main website.
There are two things that are important:
No Advertising
And I do not want to transfer the domain name to the webhost. I just want to point the website name to the webhost from my domain name provider. I know that a lot of the cheap or free webhosts want you to transfer the domain name and that is where I am having problems finding an appropriate webhost.
Please can anyone recommend a host that they have used for this purpose.
Thanks
Tanja

Actually most hosting providers only needs you to change your domain's nameservers to point to them. I really don't see a need to transfer the domain name to them.
If you plan to look for free hosting, please have a look at http://www.freewht.com and http://www.freewebspace.net.

If you dont mind paying for reliability, I recommend Steadfast's Starter plan:http://steadfast.net/services/shared.php

Many hosting companies on WHT will have some great free or cheap hosting. If you do a search on these forums you can easily find a few companies
Good luck finding a hosting company

Your requirements are pretty small but some of the free hosting providers put advertisements on your site.As JLHC said freewebspace.net is a good forum to find free hosting.

Look for some offshore providers.
With the basic requirements such as yours, you'll find one easily.
A company called 3ix offers $1 hosting. Maybe that will suit you.

tanja, your request is very reasonable so you should not have any trouble finding what you need. FreeWHT.com is a sister site to WHT and a good place to look for free hosting. Also check the Offers section here at WHT - you will find many good paid hosts there, as well.

Why would they require offshore hosting? It seems like your just hosting an ordinary website. Most hosts would be able to suit your need. I would look for a host that is around $2/month at least. Remember, quality over quantity so I wouldn't recommend going for oversellers. There are plenty of hosts in the offers section. Just browse around and I'm sure you'll be able to find something.

These web hosts meet your criteria. As always search Google and WHT for reviews.HostPC.comRippleHost.come-rice.net

Thank you for everyones input.
I went with 50webs it has no advertising and is free. I looked up the reviews and it looks positive. I set up the account in half an hour and have the page up already so it was easy to use. I don't mind paying for webspace but I will try this for now and if it doesn't work I will try out the Universes suggestion as this looks like a good place according to the reviews.
