Upgrading from cent os 4.7 to cent os 5.2
Is there any sense to upgrade to cent os 5?I mean,is there any critical benefit which will increase server performance if i do that.I noticed i can upgrade over ssh but since that will generate downtime i wonder is there a sense to do that.

CentOS 5 at its core is essentially the same as CentOS 4. Unlike CentOS 3, CentOS 4 and CentOS 5 both use the 2.6 kernel, so the differences between them are going to mostly be in the packages they include. If you're using a control panel or compiling from source, then the upgrade won't mean anything for you. CentOS 5 also includes some new tricks to help with Virtualization, so if you're running VPSes or anything along those lines that may be a good idea. Then again, "if it ain't broke don't fix it". If your system runs fine now, just let it keep on running.
All my CentOS 4 boxes are still using CentOS 4.
