do file storage servers exist ?

hi is there a low end server just designed for receiving and sending large audio and media files ?
like CPU should be minimal, as long as it can send and receive large files to and from a main server which has apache + php + mysql running in it...
would this be cost effective?

the Atom is marvellous. Much strong than a Celeron, and much less power consuming. If you want a dedi that just serves files, the Atom is a great deal.

Do some serch for the torrent hosting. That is little bit another technique, but anyway that is for large audio and video files.

sorry i have googled atom servers....but i only found one....it appears these atoms servers offer more bandwith/cost ratio...posssibly because of the less energy consumption by atom processors? would it be enough to run ffmpeg, and possibly x264 codec ?
please pm me!
