Slow Opening Word/Excel (And other files)
Recently here at work, with upgrades to office 2007, we've been running into an issue where word, excel, and some other extensions are opening extremely slow. What we've found is that this is due to an issue with "DDE" (Dynamic Data Exchange) Unfortunantly, I don't believe the is a patch to fix the issue yet. However, you can do the following steps:
Click on Start.
Click on control panel (may say settings)
Double click on Folder Options
Click on the File Types Tab.
Find the file type you are having trouble with (DOC, XLS, HTML, etc...)
Click on Advanced
Find Open in the list below and click on Edit
In the Application user to perform action box you will see something similer to the following:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE" /n /dde
If it has /dde, you will need to remove this, you will then need to add "%1" (With quotes):
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE" "%1" /n
Next uncheck the use DDE checkbox and click OK
Note: If you click edit again, the DDE checkbox will be checked again, however as long as you don't hit OK again it will remain off.
Just thought I would pass this on to anyone who might be having problems.
