Is there anyway to create my own Call Of Duty server for Xbox 360? If so what would it cost and what would it take? I currently have a VPS, would it work with that?

Not really sure why you would want to do this. The game uses one of the players as the host and not a central server.

Is that how it works? So then the game automatically creates the maps you play at then?

Yep, they're chosen randomly.
This is why you sometimes get the 'Host has ended the game' message.. as they've disconnected.

Oh I did not know that, I always thought you had to have a server. Thanks!

XBOX Live uses the Peer-to-Peer model, not client-server like most PC based games. At the start of a game the user with the best connection will server as the server basically.

Just out of curiosity after reading this post

Did you want to have a server that you can add your own maps to? Like on the PC version?
And on the subject of Xbox Live, you connect to each other via a server if I am not mistaken? Thats how the game finds the information to connect you to people that are local?

Xbox you can not have a 'dedicated' server to my knowledge.
However, with the PC versions this is definately an option.

In a way it would be possible, if they had an xbox 360 and a dedicated 24/7 connection, they would start the game from the xbox in the datacentre, or wherever it's being hosted from. I wonder if microsoft have any sort of ToS that rules against this, might be another type of hosting Mind, xbox 360's are so noisy and overheat a lot

It does use xbox live to do all of its main functions, but as its been said, the person with the best connection acts as the server.

There are actually Dedicated servers for Xbox and PS2 the former all hosted by MS and the game creators. They keep this code under lock and key, the latter PS2 as well but there are a few companies (GSP's) that have PS2 code for specific titles and rent them out. Basicaly a small console App but they eat a ton of CPU.

thats not a bad idea to put a xbox 360 in rack and host xbox games on the server...however theres currently not a way to remotely control the game server on the box hehe. if there was yes that would be a great market hehe.
