Question

VOIP recommendations

Hello,

I have been seriously looking into expanding this option for my company based in Asia but now mainly dealing with USA based provider.

Would some one recommend me of some good VOIP recommendations that offers a reseller program or a volume based discount? I'm specifically looking in to the Singapore or India.

On a seperate note, what would be the best quality codec to use for VOIP, and how much bandwidth does it use per minute?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm not sure of what providers would be good but here's a nice site for calculating bandwidth requirements for the different codecs - http://www.asteriskguru.com/tools/ba...calculator.php

If you are looking for a call termination option with aggressive pricing, and volume discounts I would suggest gafachi.com. The are based in the US though. Last I checked they only do worldwide termination, and toll free origination. They are the most aggressive pricewise that I have seen.

In order to get a good discount on termination you must have a commitment! it is the same as with bandwidth, if you can commit to some amount of minutes per month you can get a very good deal.

I'm not really sure what you mean by a VOIP account but maybe with some more info someone could suggest something -

- Where are you based?
- Where do your calls originate/terminate?
- What are you wanting to do with your 'voip account'?

If you want SIP solution, you can download a free SIP foundry server, and hosted in some dedicated server or your private server, just follow the help document.

Then the hardest part is to develop your market, with enough voip customers, you can sell them ATAs, ip phones, or desktop clients, and you also need to deploy some gateways for terminating at your range. The more the better, as long as you can afford them.

The next is to exchange calling time with your global partners, so the billing capability is the most important since then.

The best CODEC is G.729, now most hardware VOIP products support it. the bandwidth of G.729 is less than 20Kb/s.
