Hey as long as we get the new DB back and running soon we'll be fine. What's going to happen to the new posts that are being made right now?

I'd assume nothing will be done with them. More hassle trying to save a few posts compared to fixing the real issue. Wouldn't it be easier to close the forums from posting to certain areas?

It looks like what they have that's updated on their backup servers will be restored. Hopefully that should have been something of the recent past.

Worst case scenario we lose a bunch of posts of people complaining that there post count is way lower than it should be. I wish the best of luck for the WHT admins. Life lessons of my own have assured me that even if things don't come back 100% life and WHT will go on.

    This is very unfortunate.

New member registration is throwing db errors on duplicate keys.

The fact the site is up and taking posts is not good.

    Best of luck WHT~

Agreed, although WHT is currently broken, it is still serving its shinny adds... although I know that they are working to address these database issues...but I am guessing that is why they put up this old database..

Isn't it a bit odd to have it up if your hopefully going to be able to restore the previous posts etc, I would think that having it up and posts being added etc could cause issues ?

Let's hope it doesn't have to stay like this !

Putting the forum up with a old backup seems like a poor idea because if they're able to restore from a newer backup - all these posts (and other new ones) will be wiped.

For that reason I'm not horribly convinced they have a newer one .. then again they likely put it back online due to ad revenue / advertisers complaining.

Hopefully I'm wrong, either way it's still a great resource

If they do actually have a newer backup they can push those duplicate keys forward and still add those registrations to the list.

ah that explains it. I was a bit worried there for a second that someone deleted all my posts since October Was fixing to ask but figured Id look here first, good thing I did.

crap happens I guess, isnt the end of the world. I do hope that they can get a more current backup restored though but if they cant no big deal.

Oh well, at least I had Twitter when WHT was down.

I'm sure things will be running back to normal fairly quickly . . .

Hmm...at least my PM inbox is still intact. Now that is weird, the PM database is up to date and the rest is not?

I guess they're still busy doing chemistry and fusion-ing?

Wow sounds like a real painful situation and a stressful one at that.

Guess this is where home backups are handy, but that's a lot of bandwidth...

All the posts I see are from last year.

You see people 100% downtime is a lie. WHT is on rackspace and yesterday it was done. There isnt anything 100% in life. There are just to many tings involved.

I wonder how BIG the WHT database is? Is it measured in terrabytes?

Me too. I couldn't figure out what was wrong until I finally got logged in and noticed that the posts viewable from the front page were all made in October of last year.
