Plesk Transfer to new server (new datacenter etc)

Hi i'm very used to WHM / Cpanel but a client of mine who is used to / comfortable with plesk has their site on a dedicated box controlled by plesk. Short story is we're going to move to another dedicated company. How hard is it to transfer between servers (only one web site and lots of email addresses) and of course 'trying' to avoid any downtime.

Assuming the server you are migrating to has Plesk installed, and assuming you have root access to the old Plesk server, you can use the Plesk Migration Manager. If you've used the cPanel Transfer Accounts function it's basically the same.

To avoid downtime, transfer the site, test, plan on a time to change DNS off hours, then re-transfer the databases and latest emails manually. If you don't know how to do the last two steps, just delete the domain from Plesk and re-transfer again just before changing DNS.

great tip. What's your personal comment towards plesk?

Recently I start to use plesk in windows server. It seems like plesk is not as stable as cpanel. I use cpanel without any problem, but plesk- create a subdomain, then delete, and create again, error happen...

Plesk is not in general as stable as cPanel. And Plesk on Windows is certainly not as stable.

Thank you very much, i'll be following this advice later on this week.. i guess its good to be familiar with another control panel as i've almost always used cpanel/whm throught this career. Hopefully I won't have to worry about stability etc. since it really is only one website . Well let you know how it works out (if i still have this job it'll mean that it worked lol)

One thing to double check when moving sites between Plesk serves with Migration Manager is double check and make sure it's grabbed the .dot files on the accounts (like .htaccess). Plesk MM always misses .dot files.
