discuss the guide a stable server

Hi,

i am not a expert,
and this post does not want to teach how to build a server,
i just want to list my learn from here and list,
and i hope many expert here can share your know how if possible.

first, i use "stable" instead of "powerful",
it is because i know more ram、higher level muti-core cpu、15k sas will give more resource,
and it will really be more powerful,
of course,it will spend more money.

i want to build a reliable server that will not crash due to hardware conflict or unstable problem.

----------------------------------------
CPU: ES version is ok.
CPU FAN:install well and make the cpu on low temperature is important.
RAM: had better use the same batch number for all.
HD: if want to do raid, all the HD had better use the same batch number for all and the same size.
PSU: the W had better over your need
BOARD: for muti-cpu,server board only;for one cpu,low end board is ok.
CHASSIS & FANs: ventilate the hot wind out and do not make the inside hot
----------------------------------------

it looks likely i do not do any important conclusion,
if possible,i hope you may give your suggestion.

thanks

Provide "clean" power and keep it cool.

You can pretty much throw together any old, dusty junk and have a reliable, stable server.

It really depends what you are trying to do with your server. Hosting, file sharing, Virtualization, gaming, etc.

You can build a "quality" 1u, Dual Core, 2GB, 2x500GB SATA RAID server for ~$500 with quite a bit of power for most needs.

Also, you can build 1u, 8 core, 32GB, 8x15k SAS RAID for ~$5,000 if you have the need.

First determine your intended use and budget, then it will be easier to reccommend hardware/software compatible components.
