What do you as a client want from a game server host?
Just out of interest i want wondering what people want out of a game server host? I've spoken to gamers and seems to be quite a mixed recognition as to what they want.
MODs: Please note I'm not a host nor some market research person, I'm a software developer.

Everytime I have bought a game server I prefer quality. I am willing to pay more if:
-The server is in a high performance datacenter - not your standard ThePlanet, Softlayer, etc.
-Pings are low
-Servers are not overcrowded. (This is why they charge more)

So there is clients out there who pay more for quality, I thought the industry got to a point it was so over saturated that. Then again i guess its more of the younger age groups who run the game servers who don't want to spend their pocket money's worth or mummy and daddy's credit cards and want everything for nothing.

Definitely. You are right, it definitely depends on the age of the client. Keep in mind that nowadays, gamers come in all ages. World of Warcraft for example - You would think it would be a bunch of 15 year olds playing it(which there are quite a few of them), but every guild that I have been in everyone has been 18+...and I have ran into plenty of people in their late twenties to mid thirties.
Obviously you can't host a WoW server, I was just using that as in example.
What I am trying to say is that there are definitely people old enough to understand that you need to pay more in order to get more. Here is a company that every gamer knows about and they charge quite a lot - GameDaemons. They became well known even though they charge more than all the companies out there because they offer a superior product.

I don't necessarily agree GameDaemons is as well known as they used to be, not to this new revolution of gamers (the demand more, pay less ones). At one point, yes, GameDaemons was up there amongst the most well known and popular. I just don't hear their name that much anymore, which is another indication of the ever changing game hosting market.

Could you give me an example of a high performance DataCenter provider and explain why Softlayer are not good please?
Thanks
