Looking for Shared hosting or a cheap VPS to host my site

Hey WHT. I am looking for an affordable shared hosting provider, or VPS provider to host fdefault(DOT)com on.

I have been with DreamHost, HostGator, and 1&1. I am currently suffering on Dreamhost. Their support is slower than the server I am on, and I can no longer tolerate it. I'm starting to lose ad revenue money.

I need atleast 10GB of storage, and atleast 500GB of bandwidth.

The host needs to be reliable and not over sold. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks!

What is your budget?

10gb of storage I do not see being an issue but I don't see any provider giving you 500gb of *real* (not oversold) bandwidth for any less than $25~50/month.

Once you post your actual bandwidth usage + your budget the forums can be more helpful.

Your site has a LOT of CSS and JS files being loaded, which means the server has to transfer 12+ files just to get the first load (that isn't even getting to the images). I don't really know how to solve this (I do know that drupal was able to combine JS and CSS into single files respectively)

Have you looked at a caching solution to reduce database queries? WP-Cache and WP-SuperCache both work well in that department.

As for a host, I haven't personally used anything offering 500+GB of bandwidth that I would recommend.

Budget is around $10 a month.

Actual bandwidth usage is around 300GB a month.

I have been looking through the forums before I registered and I cannot find very many affordable shared or VPS hosting deals with good support and uptime.

I'd recommend Servint, although since you didn't mention a budget I'm not sure if $50/month is too high. Since January they have been very reliable and support is great.

With the specs you provided, I would recommend you check out Eleven 2. They should be able to help you out.

All the best,

For $10/month I do wish you the best of luck getting 300~500gb/month. I am sure there are providers that offer more and will be more than happy to take your money in exchange for it but when the server becomes overloaded/over it's limit on bandwidth they're going to likely go through and drop the clients with the highest usage.

This is not always the case, but it's risky business trying to use that much bandwidth for $10/month. And for having good support, generally you are going to get what you pay for and server administration and management is not cheap. Even if the company outsources for help the minimum they are going to be paying is right around $3/ticket so if they're giving you boatloads of bandwidth as well as providing top notch support they will be losing money - some hosts will do this however but it is a risky business.

I do wish you the best of luck.

I'm looking at Eleven 2 but it looks like they want a year of prepay. Any experience with them, GCM IT?

The small plan which includes 30GB of space and 300Gb of transfer starts at $9.96 for month to month basis. You can host 4 sites with that. Take a look here https://secure.eleven2.com/cart.php?gid=1 to find the full price list. I haven't tried their shared hosting. But, we've got a dedicated server with them. The network it self is pretty reliable.

All the best,

If you really require 300GB of bandwidth for $10/month your going to have a hard time finding a quality host that can provide you with that much. I'm actually surprised that you were able to consume that much bandwidth on Dreamhost without them suspending your account. If you could increase your budget to about $30/month you should have no problem with getting a decent quality VPS.

I agree with John. If you increased the budget to $30 KnownHost or WiredTree would be a great host for you. They both are good VPS providers.

You're looking for a host overselling with those needs and budget, it's impossible to get an non_overseller host offering 300 GB for that price.

I agree and I was going to say the exact same thing. There is a BIG difference between a hosting company that offers 300GB for $10 and another that offers 300GB for $30.

The $10 one is going to be oversold, while the $30/m one will present a higher quality hosting plan.

From what I can tell, you want something that can't be offered at the rate you requested. Your choice in hosting providers also makes me think the same thing. You should rethink the way you are finding your hosting providers.
