Question Web space needed

Hi,

I am building a forum website and am searching for
webhosting.
Most of the hosting companies offer unlimited space,
yet as I read, these offers should be suspected.

How can I calculate about how much webspace will the forum's db take over time? (So I can find the best host for my needs).

Thanks,
Guy

There isn't really a way to do that. It depends how the forum grows, you should always be able to upgrade your hosting plan in the future if you need to.

Hello,

Usually new forums start small and I know some that dont grow much at all. But some can grow very large. My advice is to start small and as you grow upgrade to more space, bw.

Checkout the offers section too.

Simon

In general, a new forum Website will use a little of space and bandwidth, any host company should be able to meet, I think the most important thing is to find a good host, good service support and support the account upgrade. (shared-vps-dedicated)

Good luck.

Start small, and work your way forward. Most hosts will let you upgrade/downgrade without penalty, as needed. Forums typically don't require massive amounts of disk space, unless your talking about massive forums like WHT. It likely will take time to build that kind of activity.

If you are just starting out, a space of 800MB to 1GB of space should last you long enough. When you need more space, you can always upgrade your quota or to a higher plans.

Databases are effectively encoded text. They require very little space on the server until they become very large with tens of thousands of records.

If you are just starting your forum, you should be ok with under 500mb of space and 10gb of bandwidth. When your forum grows larger, you might need to increase this but in my experience those resources have been able to support dozens of users and thousands of posts.

If you want to host lots of large high quality images and videos, then your requirements would be higher.

Hope that helps,
Mike
