Harddrive Crash

I wanted to ask a question about "what if".

If a dedicated server with no raid had a hard drive failure, what is the process to get it back up and running providing I have all the cpbackup files.

Replace drive
Reformat
....?

How do you maintain your same IP's etc
How do you restore your data from cpbackup and all server configuration, ssl, etc?

As far as I know the IP's aren't linked to your hard drive

As for getting backups...if a drive fails then you had to have them on like a NAS or eVault or on your computer. The rest I don't know the answers to, I've yet to ever have a hard drive crash.

I have had the same luck so far - just last time I had my dedicated server rebuilt, they NOC assigned me new IPs

I guess what I am really after here is do cpanel backups contain everything I need to get my server up.

Example:
Apache config
Tweak settings in whm
Ip address pool configuration
Etc

Can I restore 100% from just having the cpbackup folder offsite?

Or do I need a runbook to build cpanel after the os/cpanel install then restore from backup.

Google and my searching have only really showed my how to restore from raw files

No they do not. You have to install an OS, install WHM/cPanel and then you will be able to restore everything from your cpbackup files.

Good luck,
Joe

Its always a good option to do a weekly full system state backup from OS. This includes all configuration files and data.
As a part of Disastar Recovery, first build OS and then do a full system restore. It should bring back the cpanel and files.
