Dream Host

I've seen some people dogging DreamHost a couple times on here, and I figured I would offer my own experiences.

I've been with dreamhost for about 3 years.
I came on in a promotion for 5GB space, 50GB bandwidth for $120 a year. I used all my 5GBs and 50GBs for fun trying to see if they would boot me (like most over sellers) they did not.
Since then they add a certain amount of bandwidth and disk space every month, and I routinely test these limits, and have never once even received an email from them

I currently have 400GB disk space, and 4TB bandwidth all for $120 a year I am currently using 25Gbs space, and around 500GB of bandwidth usually, but i did a test last month and got my space up to 300GBs and bandwidth to 2TB before I got bored and stopped.

as far as reliability. since I have been with them I have never once seen an outage on my service, and I have been keeping track. their sql can be slow at times, which erks me, but then again it's still not hardly noticeable.

as far as download speeds. I just finished downloading a 4GB ISO at work from my website hosted on my DreamHost account at 2.9MB/s
I am an extremely happy customer, and I would recommend Dreamhost to anyone.
If you would to contact me directly about my experiences with them, or get a link to my website hosted on their servers for testing, just PM me

Didn't think Dreamhost would be so good.

Good to hear.

I'm sure their competitors will be along soon to claim that it's not possible.

Great stuff. Pushing TBs of static data is very doable at oversellers.

This doesn't surprise me, I've heard numerous stories of people being able to use quite large amounts of disk space/transfer at DreamHost. Now I don't know if it's the norm or if it's the lucky few that are able to do it.

At any rate, glad to hear they are working out for you.

This could irk a lot of people these days, as database use is getting ever more common. But for pushing static stuff, it looks like you've got a winner there.

Yes I agree with that. Dreamhost is known to be able to let you use most of the disk space provided. As for bandwidth, you can push TBs with static files as it will not overload the cpu and ram.

I'll second this.
They do pretty well for static content but don't even think of running anything that involves lots of DB traffic. I see some forums hosted by them go offline at random times of the day or slowing down a lot.
But they are a good deal, especially if you do mostly static

That's a surprising package for them. $10 a month and not even massively oversold resources. Glad to hear your a satisfied client.

One thing to note, when I was having problems with a high trafic joomla website, I talked to them about it, and they moved me to a different sql server the same day, and I haven't had any problems since I forgot to put that in the original post.
