DOMAINS - Available and then Unavailable!! Whats going on
Hi,
I had a few domains i wanted to register, so i went to godaddy and checked for availability.. They were available. So i thought id come back in afew days with my creditcard to register...
A few days later i went to register the domains, to my shock they were unavailable... How can this happen i asked?... I checked whois records and found they were registered months and years ago and have been registered for a period of 10 years,,, WTF!!! Im sure there is something going on... Cos i checked the availability of them domains with several registers and they were 100% available afew days ago.
Could someone clarify this matter, im sure there is some dodgyness going on?
Regards

Not sure about the registered time - I have one domain (the .com equivalent of my favourite .ca) that I watch and it seems to switch hands and dates sometimes.
Otherwise:

Thanks for the replies,
Looking at the whois info: The domains were freely available afew days ago, and now
1 domain registered by Network Solutions and the other by Godaddy, but the dates registered dont make sense as it says they were registered years ago... Obviously not... This is wrong info, scam, and im sure its illegal...
So they must have got in before i tried to buy... What a scam!!!... this should be illegal...

GoDaddy's whois is known to make some mistakes like this. One reason is they are not real-time.

This happened to me too. But this simply is a dropped domain that was not renewed by the original buyer on its renewal date. What happens is that most of the domains are drop catched by a domain firm and reregistered a few days later. I know this unfair, but its reality. From now on, if you identify a good domain name, I would recommend registering it right away.

Hi Qnetwork, seems you're in the very confusing situation there.
You can check any domains at internic.net/whois.html
It's a realtime DNS services checker. You should check those domains name in a few whois for make sure.. Good luck^^

Thanks,
Domains not dropped by NS and GD yet,,, do i call them and have a go at them?
Any other ways of checking for domains without this happening again? Any safe way to see if domains are available?
Thanks

I like Robtex's utils:
http://www.robtex.com/whois/
If you keep checking the pages or WHOIS through the same utilities you did the first time, then they're just noticing that someone wants it, thus they'll hang on. Wait ~5-7 days I believe.

Call who?
It depends. I think Netsol or GoDaddy had a thing they called protection, where they register it for the 5-day period after a lookup... don't know what you do to get it within there.
Otherwise, if it's a malicious one, it just means their tactic works.

The best advice is to wait for it to drop. Although, if it's been regged for a few years, or maybe in use, there's no reason to think it will drop anytime soon. So best advice is to forget about it and move on.
