Changing domains to new server

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to know if there's any way I could speed up the process of moving my clients domains from our old server to our new server.

All my clients are currently on server1 and I want to move them all to server2.

I know I can go in and change the name servers for each domain to the new server (NS) but just wanted to know if theres a quicker way such as changing the Ip Adresses in the SOA records to point to the IP address of the new server.

Then if they're already loading off the new servers ip address, I can then change the domains name servers afterwards.

Does this make sense? Hope you can help.

Use scp or rsync to copy files. You need to have low TTL (1100) if you want to change NS clearly and fast. Best way - use DNS providers like everydns.net. Do you use any system panel?

Make sense, I've done it a couple of time. So when the user's DNS haven't propagate to the new Name Server, they look for the zone record in the old Name Server and find your new IP Address.

Usually I terminate the old account around 2 days after the transfer, just to be safe.

Good Luck

Just don't forget about updating the information on the sites during this process, you could lose some data. DNS changes take effect with time around the world and if you have two working versions at the same time so different users may access different versions at the same time.

Yeah, it is a good solution.
