ftp setup with GoDaddy

Hello,

I'm having a problem with FTP accounts that I have set up using Plesk on a dedicated GoDaddy server. I was able to set up the account ok, and was even able to connect via smartFTP (from outside the server). But when I tried to upload a file I got a 550 error...

227 Entering Passive Mode (//IPaddressremoved//).
COMMAND:> STOR /godaddy-solutions.txt
STATUS:> Connecting ftp data socket //IPaddressremoved//...
550 /godaddy-solutions.txt: Access is denied.
ERROR:> Requested action not taken (e.g., file or directory not found, no access).

I can't even see the directory structure (httpdocs folders etc)

It looks like its a permissions setting. I tried GoDaddy support and after dealing with 10 different agents, all telling me to delete/add new accounts (which I did), I decided to try and get the answer elsewhere.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Thank you

Hello there, thanks for your suggestions.

I tried passive mode and it still wouldnt allow me to upload - the error was the same. It also said when I tried to upload a file...

"Requested action not taken (e.g file or directory not found, no access)"

I think your only hope is through there support. Hang in there and pester them until they get it fixed and then think about closing your account and going somewhere else. What are your needs for a server? A VDS might suite you depending on what you are doing.

Thanks for your reply.

I already threatened to close my account - but the support actually gave me the numbe rfor their accounts and said go ahead and close it! unreal!

They suggested that I pay extra for their "Extra Hands" support to resolve it. $75 for 30mins! i'm already paying them $550 a month. But they have us by the nuts as we actually have a deadline for friday to get this up and running.

Its a rotten service. Thank god I'm on a monthly contract.

Thumbs up

Wow, GoDaddy is a little expensive. I was a godaddy's customer. And everything runs ok hehe... I sugest you to try on SoftLayer to order a new server. Look on adversting forum here, have lots of promotions.

PS: Yup, your name looks portuguese i'm brazilian.

see ya!

Yup, I agree go with SoftLayer or The Planet. GoDaddy isn't the greatest dedicated server host in the world.

All the best,

YOu must understand that godaddy doesnt offer server management. They would limit themselves to hardware/network issues and OS reinstall. Thats why they are cheap!

If you dont know how to manage your server, you will have to pay for the management, as they mentioned. Or get a managed service like liquidweb. Selfmanaged servers are not for everyone.

Turn your windows firewall off and check, I am sure you need to enable FTP passive ports in windows firewall.

Hi fogofogo,

I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem.

Each FTP account in Plesk is set to only accept connections on the IP address you have configured for that domain. We set the IP address in Plesk to the internal IP address (10.0.0.1). This is because it was set to the extenal IP, which belongs to your PIX firewall. The FTP accounts are now working properly.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

Regards,

I hear negative reviews about GoDaddy WebHosting. How do you feel about it?
