Why do I get to live this life?

I find myself asking that question lately. Why do I get to live this great life I live, when there is so much suffering in this world? Why was I born in Australia, and not some third world war torn and impoverished country? Is it design by a higher entity or just luck of the genetic draw?

I was watching a show on SBS where they were interviewing a man who lost his entire family in Africa. His wife and children were murdered. His world, decimated, everything gone. Why does he live that horrific life and here I am in total comfort, surrounded by love, peace, happiness, material pleasures, doing what I want, when I want. How is it fair that his existence is that, and mine is this?

Sometimes I ponder on such questions, and yes, I am grateful for this life, don't get me wrong, and I do work hard to provide for my family. I just wonder why I'm living my life and someone else is living their life.

And no, I'm not drinking.

Bob,

I find myself asking the same questions...

Why do I have three beautiful kids and a gorgeous loving wife?
Why am I so fortunate to live in a nice home?
Why am I so fortunate to be in a position to help others?
Why am I so fortunate to have my health?
Why am I so fortunate to live a happy and carefree life?

My answers are still presenting themselves everyday, that's what makes life so beautiful!

I love life, everything it has to throw at me including the valley's that sometimes I slip into, those are my learning experiences...

At the end of the day when my kids are sound asleep and my wife kisses me good night, I am often taken back by the peace and serenity in my life.

A Grateful Dad!

if you are asking those questions to yourselves, it means that it is time to get involved in real aid/charity work. not the kind that happens through religious institutions - real, hands on, low level charity work.

unity100;

I do lots of charity work, thanks.

I just feel really blessed and often wonder why I got all these blessings, that's all...

I often ask myself the same thing. I'm constantly reminding myself how fortunate I am.

The only "reason" I can think of is this: life is inherently unfair. Sometimes a criminal lives 100 years while a young mother could get hit by a bus. That's life, take it or leave it.

I don't think that's the case, Unity. I'd say people who are involved in charity and community work are far more likely to think about these things than those who are not.

The way I see it, I'm fortunate enough to be in a position to help people who need it. I don't feel guilty for having such a good life in comparison to the masses, because I know it means I have the ability to help those who are not so fortunate.

I'm not sure why I was born in to a settled, typical, middle-class family. I'm not sure why I was born a human and not a rabbit, or a mouse.

Life amazes me, and I'll do everything in my power to take what I've received, and give what I can.

You can never know why you live this life. It is all pre-destined.

Everything that you were destined to have is going to happen to you will happen no matter what.

Peace,

I know what you think/worry, but the world is not fair. You never know what will happen in the future!

I often ask myself the same thing. How did an idiot like me go from slaving in the salt mines at 34 to being 90% retired at age 44 with 10 times the salary. Spending my days doing whatever I please, which usually isn't much.

- OK, It wasn't exactly a salt mine. I added that for dramatic effect.

Peace,
Sorry but it was predestined that I should respond by saying:
"That concept scared the sh!t out of me, in soooo many ways on soooo many levels".

If I was a Christian I might say that when offered his destiny, Jesus had a choice,
and that represents the choices we mortals have to make throughout our lives.

Those that are in the middle of a 'good life'
do make the most of it, but be a little prepared for your worlds to collapse
without notice.
A big event, natural or manmade, or even the smallest germs, can suddenly
take your life & turn it inside out & upside down.

You may be born into or built upto 'a good life', but at the end of the day
we all end up dead.

I do believe in Karma, and I do apreciate what I have, and I always remember
there are many millions living lives that I could not imagine trying to cope with,
and yet [and I'm not refering to anyone on WHT], I find it hard to understand
why some real sh1t head people, seem to end up 'winners' in this life.

I am grateful for the important thinks I'm blessed with:
My Wife
My Son
My sense of humour[you don't have to agree with that].

Anything over and above those are a luxury
