Question I am new to this, can you help me out

This is the first time I have really searched for web hosting and there are a lot of places to go. I have found a few that may fir my needs, but how do I know I wont get screwed? I know that if I am buying stuff online I can check out resellerratings.com to see what their track record is. Is there something like this for web hosting companies? I am curious about "Stand By You Web Services". If there is such a resource can you point me to it, or if you know anything about this company can you share this with me? Thank you.

Take a look at the various webhosting directories. Most of them will have a reviews section where people will post their comments and experiences. Findmyhosting.com is a good one and it does not accept any form of paid advertising. Some of the other directories can be quite misleading because of the hosts that pay to get a good position makes the customer think they are a good company.

Remember, you get what you pay for

Be skeptical of hosts offering everything under the sun for $1.95 a month.

Reading reviews can help you decide if a company is right for you as well. For example, some companies have quicker support than others, but their support quality may be crap. Some companies may be more lenient with overusage and some companies will create custom plans for your needs. Reviews will let you know first hand how companies conduct their business.

Best to check the reviews and look the way the website is...
it is a very compititive market and you should know what you want and find whats beneficial for you. The best way is to check the hosting lists as well...

Like the others posted I would look around and get a good feel for a few companies, ask questions, call, etc. Sometimes those hosting review boards are advertising based but some are honest and good. Otherwise you could just ask this board, I'm sure everyone has a few words to so about ANY host .

    Hello,

While its none of my business to respond here (and ignore me if you wish) I do think that we do not offer everything under the sun. I offer you what I can, and the prices are what i CAN offer. My support is great, prices are great, and customers are great. I am available online alot of time, and my other support reps are also available. I welcome all questions to sales@sbyweb.net and I continue to integrate my message that we are new, but dont let it scare you off.

    SBY.

Whatever. Smells like Spam, is Spam.

Here is a pice of advice. If you register a domainname for someone, you just might want to use THEIR info. Or maybe you are all good buddies who just 'happened' by WHT all within the same week and all were waiting for some thread to start about you guys that you could all jump in on.

    What are the odds?

Do you have common sense? They are the same company. Read the Whois. I even posted it in English since I thought that was your first language.

So you decided to move from one company that went under to the same company with a different name? Great move.

ok, isnt this forum about referring webhosts to one another... am i wrong?

    no, i am not.

therefore, i dont understand why you are calling someone a spammer for saying, "hey, i have a good host, you should try it."
