Celebrities selling hosting?

Using celebrities to sell products is nothing new and we see commercials, adverts and promos all the time by movie stars, film stars and other people of public notoriety.

But is hosting different?

I remember the Digex Shaq campaign but other then that nothing else comes to mind. Until today that is. I was reading through a UK Internet mag and one company had a UK tv presenter promoting it's products and services.

The dot com boom days had celebs fronting many ventures but now in it's aftermath is dot calm a celeb endorsed free zone?

maybe she'll do a better job than the old guy they had promoting there services before - in all their mag ads, wouldn't have bought a used car off that guy

I think it's a good idea too. I'm bored of stock photography and royalty free pictures on homepages. Seeing someone you recognise might give you a warm comfortable feeling inside and inspire confidence to purchase services with that company. But technology expert?

I just love the perversity that comes with having a sitemap of a few dozen *text* links displayed as GIFs.

And you wonder why they call it

I thought it was the new rule "never use a text link where you could use 30 images and a flash movie"

I usually chuckle when I see that guy from MacGuyver in the skyscraper banner on CNN.com pushing long distance service. There's no reason for his picture to be there... No tie-in with the message.

Wrong! McGuyver once made a long distance telephone call using two tin cans and some wire.

"some" wire? Must have been "some" long distance call.

Ahh, I remember him from the eighties! Just never knew his name.

But hey, are there really no other examples of celeb endorsed hosting apart from Digex and WebFusion? I am suprised there have not been others.
