Surfing with a same IP ( noob question)
I need to know if I could possibly web surf using always the same IP independently of the computer I surf from. Ideally would be to use my computer as a gateway and have the Ip belonging to my ISP/connection the one that is always logged, but if there is another solution that has to use another IP I will take it.
In case it was not clear, just ask.
Thanks
J
PS: no illegal/un-ethical actions will be made with this solution!

Unless you purchase a static ip address from your isp you cannot keep the same ip address all the time. However you can download a dynamic dns client from such places as dyndns.org then you can get a hostname that points to your ip address that stays the same.

I dont need it to be always the same, just to be always in the same ip range. A friend would be connecting at the same time and would like it to appear just as if it was my ip, gotcha?

Sounds like what you want is a router that runs NAT. Assuming you have a high speed connection like DSL or cable (or other) you can have a router set up as your gateway using the public ip given to you by your ISP. Any machines connected to that router would then be given a non routable IP address (192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x and assuming DHCP is enabled.) Any website that you were to visit would see your outside address.

Many thanks! I have a 1mbit down and 256kbit up. Will this solution make my buddy able to surf with my IP? I have a D link 524 router( http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...94FrLkw-_qkPcw) and ADSL ( dynamic IP)
Thanks again

If your buddy connects to your router either by cable, or wireless then yes, it will appear to use the same outside address.

I suggest you use some sort of Dynamic DNS service which your router supports. Then, supply your friend the subdomain, and you should be good to go.

If your buddy is connecting remotely, then what it sounds like you need is to set up your machine to act as a proxy server.

You might wanna look into running a VPN or Proxy on your machine. Yes, if your friend wants to use it whenever, your computer will need to be on 24/7.

thx guys for the inputs, but to be more accurate:
I need to be able to surf from my home and my buddy from his home, both using the same IP. If it is easier to use my computer rather than to pay a small fee to a company that makes this for me, ok, BUT id like to have the easiest solution as I am a complete noob
regards

I use a program called "FreeProxy"
http://www.handcraftedsoftware.org
I run it from a PC here at my house and set it for HTTP proxy only. That way I can have my mobile device use my home IP when I need to login to some or my equipment that has IP restrictions in place.
Very easy to setup and allows for authentication so no unauthorized users can use your proxy.
