Transfer away to another eNom reseller that does, or even another registrar?

The expiry date has no reflection about the domains transfer status. You can transfer a domain at any time after the first 60 days of registration. I'd recommend you transfer the domain to Name.com for $5.99. They provide free whois privacy.

Name.com changed there transfer prices, it's $7.99 now for .com and .net.
New registrations (com/net) are still $5.99.

Even the price is a little bit higher, still quite a good deal.
