1024x768 on a 17" monitor here. Most of my clients are configured for the same. Some of them (I'd say about 20%) still use 800x600 (and in one case, 640x480 on a P120 in his basement, which is hooked up to a 10-year-old Okidata dot matrix printer and running WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS quite happily.

Even though my screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768 I still design for 800 x 600 just to be on the safe side.

grrr... I am just trying to resize a site to 800x600 my designer (after I fired him) screwed up on and I am hating it.

I wonder if people with 1024x res buy more from e-comm sites?

i was actually reading an analysis done by a college grad student (MIS)...he was comparing the correlation between the amount people spend on the web and what software they use (browsers, IM clients, office suites etc)....i'll try to dig it up on tuesday

    800*600 and I design for 800*600.

    I personally use 2048 x 1536 on a 21" monitor for one of my systems, another other one is using 1280 x 1024 and a third is on 800 x 600.

But most people still use 1280 x 1024 or less down to 800 x 600. I design sites for 800 x 600 as this is still what many people use. The people who run at higher resoultions are fine, and it dosent make the sire inaccessiable for the older guy.

Even though I run higher resolutions (generally 1280 x 1024 or 1024 X 768, depending on the system; the one I usually use has dual displays both generally set at 1024 x 768) I prefer that sites I visit are designed for 800 x 600 anyway. Allows me more flexible use of my screen real estate. I rarely want a full-screen display of any website.

    2048 x 1536 on a 21" monitor!

thats nice. I think I will put off getting that tape backup and get a 21". Thats living for today

    1024x768 here

Although all my designs *should* work fine on 800x600 with no horizontal bar and I have no plans on changing this anytime soon.

Anyone who still surfs the internet on 640x480 will just have to deal with the horizontal bar.

Last I read, Jakob Nielsen was still recommending to design for 800x600.

That said, my monitor is set for 1280x1024. I love the extra space.

    I personally use 1024x768.

But unfortunately majority of people still use 800x600 ... heck there are people who still use 600x400...
... to BE or not to BE, is ONLY up to ME ...

    I use 1152x864 on my 17".

But i religiously design in 800x600.

EDIT : The only time i'd design for 1024x768 is when 19" monitors are cheap and 15" monitors are dead.

I still use 800x600 also. I recently went down from 800x600 because I noticed my eyes are getting worst by the hour.

oh well whatever, things have to be positioned so everyone can enjoy them

I always go for the old 800 X 600 , it's the most common with my visitors

not that I recommend it to everyone, may as well design for Mac
