LiquidWeb Shared Hosting - Any Bad Reviews?
Has anyone had a particularly bad (or particularly great) experience with LiquidWeb? I'm considering switching to their shared hosting, and want to hear if anyone has had any problems with them.

Just a suggestion, you might get a better sampling of opinions if you search for liquid web on this forum. Asking for bad reviews in the title will probably only get you a certain perspective

Hi,
To be honest, I have read so many positive reviews about you guys that I'm already convinced. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had a bad experience.

Thanks! That's very nice to hear. I certainly understand wanting to gain more insight.
I'll duck out of this thread now so that you can get some other people input. Good luck and let me know if you need anything.

No hosting company is perfect and while you do run into a bump in the road now and then with LW, they take care of things so quickly that it really doesn't even leave a bad taste in your mouth like with other companies. I really don't think I could sit here and say "well LW did this and this to me and it was a terrible experience but i got through it" with a straight face.

A good friend of mine has a dedicated server with LW and has been pretty happy with them and kept actually trying to get me to move some of my servers to LW.
I've not used their shared hosting, and neither has my friend but I thought that my friend's positive experiences with LW could be pertinent in your decision making process. I'm more than happy to verify the domain hosted on a LW Dedicated server should a mod require it.

Let me say that I know shared hosting doesn't even qualify as a potato to a hosting company; we are not where the money is.
I started with LW in 2004. I still have a shared hosting account with them. I am looking for a new host. I would not recommend hosting more than one site on their shared plan. I was running my personal blog and a pro-bono website for an animal shelter. They seem to have trouble setting the path info correctly. Not to mention a number of other things. Needless to say there was some embarrassment for me, for the shelter, and city, not once but 3 times. I have now moved the shelter site removed my site and left California for Baltimore.
Also word of advice if you have a problem CALL do not email there really is no point. Strangely enough even if you can tell them what the problem is since it has happened before they still have trouble fixing it.

This is the first negative thing I've heard about LiquidWeb but I'm sure every company has their share of problems large and small over time. Thank you for your response Temptin.

Your words and site is pretty harsh, can you backup what you say with ticket numbers? Maybe LW can take a look and it would be interesting to hear their side of the situation.

That doesn't sound like them at all. I'm wondering if this isn't just another case of a user blaming his own problems on the company. I was on a shared hosting account with them for quite a while and never had an issue like that (response times on tickets were exactly the same as they are now).

I can back it up with ticket numbers and it was fully a server side issue outside of my control. LW shared hosting users cannot set the domain root directory path, nor do i have any control over the name server. (That’s what we pay them for)
My first domain went up in September 2004 I added the second about a year later in November 2005. The last straw was 5/2008 and I went trough the long experience entering everything in Pims so I could have a record too. Phone ticket numbers are not logged in the same manner, so verifying them is simply his word against ours.
Also for your consideration a little less than 3 hours after my initial post I received an email from LW. That email was a faster response by LW then to any other correspondence I have had with them since early 2006.
So for any one with a support question for likely faster response with out having to pick up the phone ask all your questions and list any problems you are having here. Some one from LW will start Ticket even in the middle of the night.
So the email

It has recently been brought to my attention a current post on WHT forums summarizing that you have had, in the past, a negative experience with our company related to our support. It saddens me to hear this and wish to extend every courtesy available at my disposal to make right the offense.
Please do let me know if there is anything I can help you with.
Regards,
Aaron

If you really feel like digging there should be a 3 or 4 phone tickets for the same issue between around 11/05, 2/06, and I think 10-11/06 not sure I don't have those notes and numbers in front of me.
Take what you will and yes every company has issues from time to time if they get fixed great. If they can’t be I need to know that. If it is going to take some work on my part that’s fine let me know so I can get it done. By the third or fourth time and its taking longer and longer to fix minutes in 06 now hours or days in 08 ether the company is growing to fast or they put some ones stepbrothers best friend in a management position. Whatever it is I don’t need the hassle. I know this is a very long rant and I really am not a guy to hold a grudge but the whole experience just has me so put off.

Thought i would give you a little update.
Support ticket issued when they found my post on 2008-08-07 03:10:17
Response sent 2008-08-07 04:48:47
automated system message that ticket has been reassigned 2008-08-07 13:13:11
I understand it is the weekend now but there has been no further communication on LW's part.
I'll be sure to let you know if they choose to get back to me before the automated system expires the ticket, usually in 48 hours.

It is not a surprise to me. Because no body can be 100% perfect. That is true in web hosting field too. When some body comes and shares his bad experience we dont need to go at him. For a company with a good reputation this is the time to reorganize things. That means the time to chek what they have done wrong in this specific customer's case and try to avoid it in the future .
