asmallorange sucks big time - poor uptime - high server loads

amsallorange sucks big time.

here is the fact -

I was happy with medialayer and icdsoft for 2 years now. But then i found amsallorange hosting as i read some good reviews about it. I liekd the features and since many users were happy i decided to join. But to my shock amsallorange's uptime is very poor. After 3 months of horrible uptime and being moved around in 3 different servers.. i have decided to leave.

The shared hosting server used to go down now like 9 pins. On a daily basis the server would go offline, the db would fail or there would be high server loads. (40)

Initially my complaints was taken lightly and corrective measures were not taken. Then later i was told to check the codes in my websites. I did check them and found to be ok. Later the asmallorange support confirmed that my sites codes were good and not causing any load on the server. They had a hard time in catching errant accounts that were causing high server loads and spikes. The high server load continued despite contacting them on almost 5 days a week for around 2 months.

ASO support dismissed my posts saying that this is inherent problems of shared hosting. If that is the case then nobody would have taken shared hosting. i am ok with a downtime happening in a week or so..but here at ASO , the server was being restarted almost evry other day, the server would go offline daily ..the server went offline multiple times in a sinlge day and this has repeated for 2 months now.

i have fair share of experience of hosting sites in a shared hosting environment but never does the server go down everyday because of high server loads like this.

one more thing is that if we complain about such low uptime to support- they offer VPS that is expensive and that too unmanaged.

Mr.Tim - the owner of ASO who usually posts in the ASO's forums has also been unresponsive to my complaints.

i had also referred 2 of my friends to use asmallorange's shared hosting. But within a month both who have moved out of asmallorange due to the bad uptime.

Since i had taken a monthly account i can discontinue without much loss. Since then i have decided to experiment with a new host which accepts monthly payments.

I've been hearing many mixed things about ASO lately. Do you have any statistics of your website's uptime to prove they really were down on a daily basis?

I have the support emails i have sent..tickets sent to support regarding..this to ASo cusotmer support..their acknowledgement

every day i get sites offline from the online monitoring utilities. There can be false +ves with this.. but most of the time they r right as i cross check.

even the sites have a status.amsallorange.com which just shows the present online servers and never the total record of uptime.

anything else ??

I remember when ASO were all the rage on this forum.

A load of 40 on any server is very bad, but finding the problem domain should be fairly easy.

i asked them about any server monitoring system and then i was told by a ASO support mentioning in their website forum that ASO was using a monitoring system by the name of Zabbix, a web based interface to monitor for load, disk, connectivity, etc.

The problem is that after repeated emails to support for 2 months, they started to acknowledge that were issues with high server loads and suspended a few sites. But even then the high server load remained and even the DB was down. At present they have no other answer other than

Code:
t has been of no use since the problem is cropping up again..

As of now ...Load averages: 22.50, 11.89, 6.65

oh ... again the site is again offline..?? :(

come on..what is happening?? i am truly appaled by ur monitoring system. :(

That's sad to hear, hopefully your new place you are hosting at doesn't have the same problems. Though how long was each downtime if you don't mind me asking.

So..you were happy with your host and left for a new one? That doesn't make much sense to me.

it varied..some lasting a like a few minutes for server restarts to 20 minutes...to 4 hours. Even teh db getts disconnected a few times in a week. And the server is being restarted in a weekly basis to counter server loads. 3 days back it was restarted several times in a day.

I don't know about the pricing structure but they may have left their old host to save some money, or there could have been other reasons that I can't really speculate about without more information

This is one of the first bad posts I've seen about ASO as they've always been recommended here (I remember mostly because I think their name is weird!)

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences.

ASO is mentioned a lot here on WHT - it's strange they didn't take your complaint too serious at first.. the thing that has me confused is why it took so long to check / fix the issue. It's a fairly simple process finding what's causing high load and resolving it.

Hopefully someone from ASO will clear things up here / compensate you.

Looking at the pricing of medialayer and ASO it's really not a significant enough difference to warrant a move IMO. I'm just wondering if there's a side to the story here that we're not being told (as is the case most of the time).

You say you liked the features on ASO more..what did they have that medialayer didn't? What was such a huge benefit over what medialayer that caused you to move?

If nothing else, then you're saying that..some reviews here on WHT (medialayer has been getting nothing but good reviews lately as well) caused you to change from a host that you had no problems with to a new one?

And..you claim you were happy with your host before medialayer too. Sounds like you jump ship for no apparent reason fairly often.

I personally know a few individuals who are like this, not sure why they put themselves through such trouble so often for no reason

I guess we'll have to see what the OP says.

Wow sorry to hear about your bad experience. I feel kinda bad now, I've been recommending ASO. When I was last with them, albeit a couple of years ago now, they were quite good.

Mike
