Indeed, never fall for unlimited. It's just not possible, since there are no unlimited hard drives and unlimited connections.

You say you are starting a forum so you don't need all that much space and traffic, you just need web hosting, with some scripting language like PHP/MySQL or ASP/MSSQL.

Do you prefer a forum script (MyBB, vBulletin etc) and what's your budget?

Bleh, again I can't recommend people in the UK because I don't know anyone :-\.

However, if it's a forum, and not software requiring very little latency, you shouldn't have a problem with hosting oversees. www.ASmallOrange.com are very good.

Really you only need a host in the same county as your target audience if you are hosting something like a game server or require search engine optimisation.

Good luck with your search.
Mike

I have used Bionic Hosting for quite a while with vBulletin. They have excellent support and are in the UK.

The bronze package should be fine for your needs.

I have used a few other UK hosts but these are by far the best but if you want to know about anymore, just drop me a PM or reply here.

Indeed I have used ASO before. I had a reseller account with them for some time. Eventually I outgrew them and went onto a VPS. Since they were sold out, I moved to a different host. But when I was with them, they were very good.

Do not believe that the "unlimited",this is not possible.

Because you are just starting a forum, then space and bandwidth requirements are not too high, I believe that most hosts are able to meet your request.

But I must remind you:
1.When you find your satisfaction hosting provider, you should search for their related post in the Forum and read others opinions, then decide.

2.When you choose hosting, you should take into account upgrade, so find whether they support the corresponding services.

Hi Nelly,

What you seem to need is a shared linux/ unix hosting platform. If you could get one with a control panel to make your life easier it would be useful, but not critical. If you can get Plesk, it would have a whole range (60 or so I think) of products that can easily be 'one click installed' for simplicity, and both your requests are available

<<snipped>>

But in essence the above is what I would go for.

Best of luck in your forum,

Fred

Just don;t go with overselling web hosts. I would suggest you to choose web host after the decision about forums software. There are hosting companies that might offer some help on vBulletin or to offer customized service. But to search for hosts like these you have to choose software first.

I did have a problem once due to a bad server but they moved everyone off it onto a new server, upgraded my plan to the top one and gave me some free time for my trouble.

I have had pictures, an arcade, tv and radio mod and several addons to my forum and have a wiki on the site aswell.

EDIT: I have a reseller on Bionic Hosting which has my 6 sites on and easily accomodates them all.
