Remote backup alternative
Hi,
I am using BQbackup since 10 months ago without problems. But in the last 6 days the transference rate is very slow (3kB/s). I already sent some emails to Scott but I dont receive a reply. So I need to have a look in other alternative to store my backups. Do you have some suggetions???
Thanks

I'm using BQBackup just fine
I'm using BQBackup just fine included last six days. I've perform daily transfers from Chicago to NY at around 1,500 kbps. Three days ago I encountered a problem with a php script there and reported this to Scott; I received not a reply yet but the reported problem weas solved quickly...IMHO better replacement to BQBackup simply does not exist yet...

Hello there,
Those speeds are certainly not normal. We are already in contact with you by email to find out where your bottleneck is. Please note that we do not officially offer support on the weekends. If everything has been working properly for 10 months, I would assume that this is some sort of temporary problem somewhere.

Yes Scott, I assume this too. My problem is that I need to do a weekly backups all weekend but this slow started 6 days ago and continues. But I really think your service good and wait that you can fix it soom.
Thank you

Have you provided traceroutes from your server's to Scott?
We have been using them for quite a while now and I have not noticed any decrease in transfer speeds.
Chris.

YEs, I do it. Traceroute is fine. I have problems from 3 diferents servers in 3 diferents DC (softlayer, the planet and colo4dallas). So for me is clear htat the problem is not on route or on my end.
But Scott is working on it. I hope that he can fix it soom.

Just to back up the OP, the transfer rates from Colo4Dallas (InterNAP) to BQBackup were pretty bad a while ago despite a low ~25ms ping time. Ironically enough, transfer rates to a server in Montreal (Canada) with a ~60ms ping time were substantially faster... *shrugs*

From what I have been able to tell so far, it doesn't appear to be network-related. I suspect it's the same Solaris ZFS fragmentation bug that has been intermittently popping up for some customers. We've been in direct contact with the Sun engineer that is working on the patch. In the mean time, the workaround is for us to migrate the account to another server, which effectively defragments the data.

Scott,
I need a fast solution. So If the more fast solution is migrate account to other server, so I agree. Please send me a reply in my email.
Thanks

Is anyone having trouble accessing their backup account? I'm getting a connection timed out.

If you're getting a timeout, it would be best to contact support@bqinternet.com so that we can help you troubleshoot. According to our status scripts, all servers are up and running.

I tried FPT and the same problem. Any data transfered by FTP, SSH, RSYNC...
From my end is impossible to do any transference.
