II run a hosting and web Design Company and I concentrate on Quality service for affordable prices, unfortunately in webhostingtalk and other places where you can bid, the competition is unbearable. Doesn’t' matter how low you go with your prices, there will always be someone who will give his services for almost free. Unfortunately that also what the people who post are looking for. My question is, does anyone have suggestion for a place online where I can approach clients who have a more corporate attitude. People that might be looking for good prices, but more important are looking for quality.
I know that this is a far-fetched question, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
and BTW how is it possible that people are making money with such low prices. It is literally something for nothing
Advertise outside of WHT. Most of the people you see posting the stupid prices are the same host later you will read about crashing and burning. Or they are new and trying to lure clients anyway they can. Then some are kids that live with mom and dad and don't have any real bills to pay and do this to earn extra income.
To be a full time hosting company selling a professional service there is no way unless you are WAY over selling to keep up in price. Don't even try.
The best place to get clients is near where you live. Many small businesses still do not have a web presence. Try running add in a local business paper/newsletter. Make up a small presentation (Postcard, Pamphlet) about your company and go door to door in small malls and shopping districts.
Before you go to these businesses make note of what they do and whom there competition might be. Then search on the web to see if any of them have a website. It is best to do a little home work on this. All it takes is a few of these businesses to get things started, word of mouth will do the rest.
You are totally right, and I feel that I have cut costs very well, and I'm extremely competitive, but you know what is all the place like elance and webhostingtalk.com. There is always companies or individuals that oofer prices, fro rediculus amount. I'm talking about $50 for design.
Reading through the webhosting offers and requests forums always leaves me with a disturbing headache.
However if you are serious about your company then you do not follow those prices. These people do not make profits, these people cannot make profits.
If you stick to your own prices and give good service then maybe it will take a little longer before you get a few dozen clients but once you have them and they are very happy with you then you will notice more people signing on that are happy to pay your prices.
People ARE still willing to pay $ 14.99 per month for a normal website with average datatransfer.
Just don't look for those people in the requests forum
There are quite a few ways to find your customers but here a one that has been effective for us.
Find local companies on the web, look for sites that may need a face lift. Look up the nameservers for the domain to see who their host is. When we find sites that are hosted with companies that charge around $20 monthly or more, we contact them about upgrading their site.
Note: Tread lightly when talking about their existing site. Often times someone in their family has done it for them.
BTW our lowest price for hosting is $19.95 and most of our local ads run as $100 off a new web site design of $2000.
When customers contact us, they already expect to pay more than the kid down the street.
