Good wordpress host ? (specific)
I am looking for a good host for a wordpress blog
I am a newb but I'll try to be specific.
Heree is what i would like:
- Fast and friendly online support
- I live in australia so need 24/7 support to get live support.
- I want to spend $6 USD or less a month
- I need to host multiple domains (at the moment just 2) and multiple databases ( <5 )
- would be good if it had cPanel (i've used it before)
The site will be mainly text based with a few images and embeded videos and initially won't be larger than 500mb(probably alot less)
I have done some homework before posting this:
- I was looking at gatorhost - but they only support 1 domain in my price range.
- Hawk\Axis host looked good but it doesn't appear they have 24/7 support. (i tried on their websites)
- Dreamhost\Bluehost the forums here say there unlimited deals are too good to be true and I could have headaches with them
A number of others are recommended but are above my price range.
All of which leaves me still searching.
I don't think my requirements are that hefty so I think surely someone must offer something in this price range. Can someone please help me out?

500mb is very reasonable for around $6/month. I'd look for plans in the 1-5GB disk space range for a good balance of resources/price. Some hosts do not have fully staffed sales representatives 24/7, but they do offer 24/7 support.

I cannot give you any specific recommendation, I just want to say that it's good that you consider some of the offers you've seen "too good to be true". When hosting a WordPress blog or any other dynamic site, it's usually a good idea to stay clear of hosts that engage in overselling. Sooner or later, they will catch you violating their TOS, for example for hitting a CPU limit.

Thanks for your quick reply orien.
I was testing the online help section. I noted that Axis had an icon on it's sales page that said "Live Support Online" but when i clicked it - both sales and support were offline. Not a good look for them and i kept searching.
I've just had a look at justhost.com (NOT justhosting.ca)and it appears to meet my needs. I've searched this forum and didn't find any threads on experience with justhost.com... Does anyone have experience with them?

No problem - by taking a look at justhost.com, they're offering plans that you simply don't need. From your initial post, you understood the potential problems with unlimited hosts, but with justhost's offerings, they more or less come with the same potential risk.

Live support (chat) you will not find often, however 24x7 ticket support is more common these days.
I would personally rather have a good support team handling tickets rapidly as choosing a host with a chat support which tells you to create a ticket anyways (seen that, done that).
Obviously it is sometimes easier/nicer for the customer to contact someone 'live' but ticket systems are often used with a reason. One of them is being able to track previous records, which is of course possible with chats bit a lot less easy.
Other as this point you may find many good hosts for your budget.

One thing very much noticeable is how he presented his requirement. It was really specific. This way can be followed by others too instead asking just for a good host. I really appreciate you g0liath01

Just to clarify here we do in fact have 24/7 support but 24/7 through our support ticket system. I assume you were checking early this morning some time which tickets were coming in and be answered. We're working on improving the availability of our live chat system but it takes time to be able to provide quality live support and not just people who tell you to make a ticket.

No wonder you can find something good in that price range if you don't need many resources, but you need to explore and try a lot of providers in my experience.
I would have suggested you nearlyfreespeech.net, as they're solid and offer true multidomain support paying just what you use (so very little and well within your budget if you consume less than 5gb bandwith (=like 1000pageviews/day) each month), but unfortunately they don't have 24/24 support.
Uhhmmm ... Yes I think the best one for quality/price ratio would be the basic plan from SteadFast : $52.95 per year . They're very good for that budget.

Thanks all for the advice. I've signed up with 040hosting.eu.
The "live" support i got over at justhost.com was actually a chatbot!! it was pretty sophisticated though and was able to answer my questions.
I liked the service\sales support at 040 hosting which had a real person for live chat support who was friendly and very helpful. The bandwidth and disk space are small - but so is the price tag as I'm starting off with a plan for 0.95 EUR a month. 040 allows me to progressively upgrade my plan (1.5, 3 EUR) when i start getting more traffic.
Interesting that 040's post above says he'd prefer good ticket support to live chat support even though 040 provides it. I think that show's he's being quite honest and that should be commended. Don't have any experience to comment on if they're a good hostyet - but all signs are very promising so far.

Thanks for the kind words, yes we still prefer tickets above chat support, as we find it easier to track and to spot general problems, this helps to improve services for all customers, which as i said, is a bit more tricky with chat logs as often multiple issues are discussed.
This does not mean chat support can't be very helpful for the customer, but when looking at the big picture we would prefer ticket support. But trying to make everyone happy (yes we know this is not always possible) we will try our best.
And honesty is a great virtue we should embrace.
