how to configure two 100mbit ports on a server
hey member's
quick question hope this is the right place
i got a new server
spec are:
Intel . 2,4 GHz
80 GB of HDD disk
1GB MB of RAM
Traffic-Unlimited
100Mbit Switch Port
Windows web os
from hosting-ie yes i know the bad reviews but i got my server in 2days
now i saw a good deal that for 12 euros extra get 2 * 100mbit
so i upgraded to a 2 * 100mbit connection as the server would be
used to let members from my forum download music / music videos [remixed] made by me and my other producer so 200mbit server will do nicely for my site
now when i got it it shows me two network connections each saying 100mbit
but only one of the connections is being used and the other is not in use
is there a way that i can use both at the same time or maybe use one for http/ftp and one just for ther server itslef
thx to any member that can help

well, each port should have its own IP address, yes ?
so run ftp on one IP, http on the other.

could hire a server admin to do it. im not 100% sure but i think its to do with eth0 etc like said above. however im sure a server admin would know. seeksadmin are good. not a self promotion just what ive read around here.

if a service listens on different interfaces, it will only affect the interface of incoming traffic. All outbound data will exit the highest priority interface connected to the default gateway.
You could make sure that you add a second default gateway, specifying the eth1 interface if it is the same gateway as eth0, make sure the metrics are the same. In this scenario, outbound traffic would swap between the 2, however the source IP of those connections will also.
Ideally what you want is to Load-Balance, Bond or Aggregate the interfaces to a single IP-link, but this should be configured specifically with the appropriate assistance depending on setup.

Two Ethernet cards are used in Internet Gateway's and web filters. You can combine the two into a 200mb/s connection but I don't see why you want that. It would be better for you delegate traffic between the nics. FTP and HTTP is a great idea and to accomplish that you really should contact the hosting provider. You are going to load-balance the two connections and good load balancers (hotbrick etc) have settings how to delegate traffic via ports, and etc. Check that out
