Usually yes. You should ensure they use SSL before giving them your credit card info. Its also a good idea to pay through paypal or a third party processor as they are quite secure.

In general. If the web host is established company they can get Merchant account if not they might not get one. When it comes to submit your data it is a good idea to do it only with companies that use SSL.

    Cool

As already said just make sure the host has a valid security certificate and the connection you are on starts with https.

Most hosts have merchant bank account and accept PayPal also so you have a choice of whatever makes you feel more secure. A good web host's billing system will never let them see all your credit card data... all that displays to us for example is the type card, last 4 digits, and expiration date. The rest s encrypted as soon as you enter it.

If a host has been around for a while you are probably fine. No more risk than any other online transaction... but if you are leery use PayPal then switch to credit card after to have been there a while.

Yes, its safe. Just make sure which software they are using for billing. It should be a recognized one.

It typically is safe. But if you have any doubts, you could ask the host if they accept PayPal, and pay that way instead. You can often send a PayPal credit card payment without having to have a PayPal account.

Yea, Credit Cards are secure. But as said before, it is best to pay through a major money transferring company such as paypal.

Your web host's site should instill confidence in them and their site. This is one of the primary goals of any online business as without confidence and trust even if you offer a great product nobody will order.

Make sure that the host is using SSL (identified by a URL beginning with https:// and if you have any questions about their security practices contact them directly.

Make sure that you have anti-fraud (like MaxMind) installed at multiple levels...like: at your billing system's level + at your merchant gateway's level etc.

They are not asking how to securely accept credit card payments on their hosting web site but whether it is safe to pay for web hosting with a credit card.

Sorry, my bad...I got it the other way round.

Is it secure to pay through credit card for a webhost?
I think it's a matter of trust & safe payment practice implemented by web host. If you really feel uncomfortable using a real credit card, then just use a pre-paid credit card or a virtual credit card (like the one that Citibank offers...and now Paypal have started too).

You should definitely only use hosts who have their own SSL. Paying by credit card should be one of the safest and secure options when paying for hosting. If it is not safe to pay a particular hosting company with a credit card then I would not be hosting anything with them at all.

As long as you recognise the payment processer or they are using SSL and a reputable brand then it's perfectly safe.
