Does anyone know of a script that can monitor servers and email you if they go down?

There are many scripts and programs for Windows and Linux that do this if you just search for networking monitoring software in google.

some off the top of my head:

    - Nagios
    - Zabbix
    - Munin
    - Paessler PRTG Monitor
    - ZenOSS
    - WhatsUpGold
