pc-core.net bad experience

Hi,

Just wanted to post a quick note for those looking to get a server from pc-core.net.

In pre sales talks they told me that they could have a server available to me within 48 hours of receiving payment.

On their website at http://www.pc-core.net/hosting/dedicated/ it says "Your server will be provisioned, secured, and delivered within 72 hours of purchase."

This was important to me as I at that time only had 1 week left on my contract with my current provider.

2 days after I paid for the server, and 3 days before deadline, I contacted the support and asked for the server as I needed to migrate.
They said they'd set it up "ASAP" and that they would do the migration for me as I wouldn't be available the following days.

Today is deadline and my current provider is billing me for another month. And I still, 5 days after payment, have no server available from pc-core.net.

I don't know if this was just a glitch in their services or if it's the way they normally conduct their business.

I asked about the server yesterday and they have had all of friday to produce a response. It has now been 18 hours and not a word.

I have asked for my money back as they offer a Money Back Guarantee on their website.
I don't know if that is a promise they take as lightly as the promise to deliver but will keep you posted.

Best,
Henrik Marik

Sounds like a pretty bad experience for you . Perhaps they were swamped with a lot of work, and weren't able to deliver it, though keep in mind that not many providers provision servers on the weekend, so you might not be able to get your server until Monday.

Do you really need to pay another month with your provider? Can't you just grab all your data and wait, or is it important for your server to stay online? (I'm asking since I don't know exactly what you use your server for).

Can't do that unfortunately.

This server is an extremely low bandwidth server (only approx 250MB last month) and I only host a very few sites on it.

But it is important that the sites are available and I can't take them down even for 2 days.

It sounds like your in a pretty bad situation and their is only so much you/they can do. I'm not sure if your aware of this, but pc-core is a reseller of burst/nocster. So in this type of situation your dealing with the middle man and the only thing you/they can do is wait for burst/nocster to set it up.

You also need to take into consideration that yesterday (Friday) was a national holiday, and sales/support can be limited at those times.

Mr Obvious,

You're right. I'll talk to my current provider and ask them to extend my contract one day for free due to the national holiday.

Really.. why do I need to take that into concideration? Pc-core knew, a week ago, that I only had 4 days.
Last time I mentioned this was 2 days ago, before they promised to deliver and migrate the data for me yesterday.

It is on them to take such things into consideration before they make promises.

And.. they are a Canadian company.. I'm not sure they celebrate 4:th of July. Excuse my ignorance if they do.

It's not a biggy to me that they f***ed up..
It only cost me about $100 and a little annoyance.

But it is maybe helpful for other ppl to know if they are
considering to get a server from pc-core.net.

I.e so they make sure they're ordering the server well ahead of any deadline.

Like a month ahead or so.

If you're only using 250mb bandwidth/month, surely a shared account would be better suited? Of course, you may require custom things a shared host wouldn't provide, in which case, a VPS would be better suited?

As for the server delay, BurstNET (whom would setup the server) are running a large sale, and they are well known for slow setup times, particularly during sale periods (because the price is so insanely cheap, it's ridiculously popular). BurstNET would probably also be celebrating 4th July, as they are located in the US (Pennsylvania). Good luck!

Well PC-Core Resells Burst which is based in the USA. They really have no control over how long it takes to provision a server.

If they're just a few sites and all they need is php and mysql I'm willing to help you out for a few days.

That is of course if it's nothing very sensitive that you wouldn't want me to see (i'd have to set them manually because i don't have cpanel on my server).

I was on Burst a long time ago, and I can truthfully say one of the few good reseller of theirs would be volumedrive.com. I have delt with many other Burst reseller's, and none of them could provide the support that VolumeDrive does. Even though the network quality is not the best, it's worth to go with them if you want to get a server on the Burst network.

I was just repeating that to say that Burst is in the USA which means they are probably not staffing as much this weekend due to the holiday

Henrick,

You may just want to back everything up on your home PC and then take the hit of having no website for 1-2 days. Or see if you can work something out with your current provider to see if they will allow you to pay for a week more or something. Depending how your website is setup, you may just be able to host them on a shared hosting company somewhere for a few bucks instead of paying $100's more to extend your dedicated sever contract.
