Recording Industry Association of America "hacked."
You may have read about it by now: the RIAA website at www.riaa.org is down at this moment for "maintenance." A mirror of the short-lived "defaced" version is available at http://wintermute.student.umd.edu/ -- my favorite link: "Where can I find information on giant monkeys?"

I have never thought about Shoutcast before, they have something about it on there site but i cannot be bothered looking at all of it because it will only put a downer on my day.
I recall something about fees already enforced with live365 but that should have been shut down long ago.
I'm a bit of a broadcaster but it's just radio scanners and stuff like that so no one can touch me well not the RIAA.Professor of crime at St Andrews university.

If they carry on the way they are... they should expect a lot worse.

yeah uh. i don't quite understand how that works. i mean i installed it and all, but i don't really get it.
maybe i'm just stupid, probably am.
i'm used to shoutcast, where you run the server software on a box, e.g. a dedicated server , etc
then you install the client software, and connect to the server. then if you want people to listen you just give them http://ip-of-server:8000/listen.pls etc..
all i was trying to say was.... since all this riaa **** is going on, would people like me still be able to use shoutcast to broadcast? i guess that would be a question i ask shoutcast / nullsoft eh...
well i hope they don't shut down the servers or anything like that
well actually i'm not sure
I wonder if you can still broadcast even if shoutcast turns off the directory servers or whatever (yp.shoutcast.com)

here's a pretty good tutorial on how to setup peercast. http://www.xs4all.nl/~jgurp/homepage...caststreamtut/
peercast has great potential and improves with every new beta. it has a ways to go, but, it IS getting better at what it's meant to do. which is to "relay" your streams off of many different users, thus, saving bandwidth, harder to trace, more possible exposure to your streams, etc. etc.
and i believe you will still be able to stream if yp. gets shut down. you can still allow people to connect directly to you or your server directly. i thought yp was just for public streams(?)
but i'm a definite supporter of the future of peer to peer streams.
