RAID-0 and a single disk together, a total of 4.
Hello,
One of my friends said the following configuration will not benefit from the speed of RAID, because there is a slower disk on the same motherboard.
2x250 GB SATA2 in RAID-0 for operating system.
1x500 GB for storage.
1x250 GB for storage, too.
It isn't a total of 3 disks as the title says, because I mistyped the title
The motherboard is a Gigabyte x38 with raid support, for home PC. I'm setting up a home computer, not a server. I will not buy a raid controller, I will use the raid support of the motherboard.
Is this raid a waste of money? Or will the raid array work fast, and the storage drives will work normal, as I expected?
Any input is extremely appreciated, I'm gonna buy this computer in less than 24 hours and I'm still confusedLast edited by Harzem; 06-26-2008 at 07:33 PM.

I use a MB with the same Raid support feature, and I'm happy with it.
I've noticed a gain over my old Raptor Disk, I'd say about 50% Faster than the raptor.

The motherboard has a single raid controller, doesn't it?
