Is colocation with administration of services a reality?

I am new to these forums so please forgive if this isn't the correct place to post this.

I have a high level server that is in need of a place to live and also an administrator to handle backups, patches, and also to work with the software manufacturer to acheive different configurations.

I am not asking for names, but rather I need to know if there are services out there that are willing to do this. (Does this exist??)
I am having terrible luck with my existing host as their willingness to touch the server, even with no liability, has faded.

Thx

Certainly there are.

Datapipe and Bitpusher are pretty solid managed colocation service providers that I can think of.

Or you can just use a managed server/sysadmin company like Rack911, Serverwizards, etc.

And, FYI, really good managed service providers who know their stuff will generally not be cheap.

"Managed Colocation" is not that hard to find... given how it has become something of an industry buzzword!

There are plenty of providers who offer it a la carte (admin time @ $xxx/hr), and a subset of providers who have made it their entire model. As serverminds mentioned though, the prices will be higher on average when compared to a "raw colocation provider" who is just selling Ping, Pipe, &Power. I think if you do the math though, and really compare the price of colo + a la carte services, with a true managed provider the deal is more than worth it. You actually pay less in the long run because you do really get what you pay for.

Good luck in your search!

Please note: I no longer work for digital.forest in Seattle, WA, as I left them in early 2010 to pursue an amazing opportunity at an amazing datacenter project elsewhere... I do not speak for digital.forest here. However I still know they provide the best colocation in the Pacific Northwest.

Thank you both for your helpful responses! Not too worried about costs with this one and am definitely in need of soemone to administer the box and make on the fly changes. I'm sure these costs can't be more than what we pay now LOL.

Tanks again!

There are plenty of managed colocation providers. Look for datacenters that have staff onsite 24/7.

If there are only a few server's to have managed there are many freelancers looking for work that can handle the work load for you. As long of course its not hardware but most of time the provider would assist in any hardware issue's most are responsible in price for remote hands.
