3 month review - Servebydesign.net

I have had a budget server on servebydesign.net for 3 or 4 months now. I am not keeping it because I have moved my sites to a smaller VPS, also with servebydesign.net, but I thought I would comment on the service I did have.

Server setup was fast: approximately 3 hours to be up and running. Everything was nice and clean, no problems at all. The VPS I purchased this month was less than 2 hour setup.

Network: At the beginning I had some trouble with very low throughput in my evenings. It turned out to be a user abusing their server (on the same switch I was on). That was corrected, and I have since had no problems at all, with the exception of 1.5 hours of downtime this month due to a faulty switch. Ping times to Toronto were always reasonable .. not as fast as Chicago, but faster than my stupid ISP can route to Toronto servers.

Support: Always responded within an hour for minor issues and within 30 hours with a fix for the couple of more serious questions I had. No problems there. I don't know about support overnight as I never tried it.

Basically, my time there has been almost problem free, and any problems I have dealt with were done in a timely and effective fashion.

I am VERY happy with their new VPS offering as well, and will be happy to bring a review of that when I have had it a big longer.

If you require a budget service with good support, I can say that I have had a really good experience with servebydesign, and I hope you do too.

P.S. the site I had there was http://mystikk.net, along with a few others that I host for friends and family, and as backups to my main server for select clients. Those sites are now on the VPS.

Mystikk: thanks for the review!

We really try our best to make sure our customers are happy. I think too many people associate budget hosting with poor service and support. I know we are proving otherwise.

Just an FYI for you and other potential clients... We are moving to a new, larger data center soon.

Even better things are coming...

We don't offer test servers. We do have a money back guarantee within the first 30 days if you are not satisfied.

Nice to hear some good reviews. I have been considering servebydesign. Not many local providers in MN with decent prices.

You mentioned you're moving to a new DC. Is the new DC still going to be in MN?
