High Server Load + Chat Box

Alright we just bought a new customer aboard with a ChatBox on the site it seems as if this chatbox is causing higher load we went from 0.00 to 0.68-1.12 now this happened on our old server before too with another chatbox. They use vBulletin any ideas as to what would be causing this?

Could be high mysql usage, I suggest you do some digging and tweaking.

The chat box is refreshed every 10-30 seconds
That will cause high mysql usage and apache usage.

A little more information could be helpful here.

What's the server spec, how busy is the chat site?

Dual 3.06 GHz Xeon w/ HT 2 GB RAM 80 GB 10k Hotswap Drive SCSI.

We hired a person from here to optimize the box so we will see how that goes.
