What is Shawn J. White of Cyberwings up to Now?

You can't write a movie any better than this. I feel awfully bad for those folks waiting for accounts and refunds. It looks like they'll be sitting behind the new adult hosting business.

    Sad, very sad.

The best is his admission that he lied and that Cyberwings was a "project" and not a business. How would you like to host with a company who was doing it for fun?

Not being 100% outright and honest did have some effect in some instances. I'm human. I guess I thought that if I told people that I wasn't sure my heart was in the business anymore they would bail immediately. I put out announcements, tried to make everything sound like it was progressing, knowing that my heart really wasn't behind the project anymore. To me, Cyberwings was always a "project", not a profit maker.

I also here one of his servers is down right now. What a moron. I can't believe he's got the balls to go out and try to start a new business when he still owes so many people money. Yeah Shawn, that's really going to help rebuild your reputation there... screw a bunch of people, chalk it up to a 'project', then get into the porn industry.

    Good idea!

Cyberwings has two servers right now. This is slightly down from the 18 that Shawn claimed were coming online after he lost LS and RS.

"Jusssssstttttt a little bit outside," Announcer in Major League.

One of the servers that contains the customer's data is down. Shawn is the only person who can troubleshoot and reboot the servers.

Six people on staff, one person who can actually fix problems. Hmmmm....

thanks to a few stupid customers, who are hanging on to their $1.50 AYW reseller accounts.. hoping to strike gold somewhere.

Can't wait to hear the name of Shawn's new Adult Hosting business...

Our costs for the DC, Staff, Servers, etc. need to be subsidized by income, so I would like to branch off and run anoother company simultaneously while rebuilding Cyberwings. Remember, rebuilding Cyberwings, not expanding it. Just rebuilding it to a point where all the customers who want to be serviced ARE being serviced, and nothing more for now. When the Cyberwings name is restored in the community, which will take a few months of no bumps and good services, we will try again to expand Cyberwings. In the meantime we have a nice data center to grow into and adult hosting is incredibly profitable. If anyone asks, Company X is leasing data center space from Cyberwings. Period. My name will not be on the new company's website. Not even sure what the new company will be called yet. Just have the idea that we want to put into motion. It will have a different CEO as to not conflict with Cyberwings, but I (and Cyberwings) will be the driving force behind it.
    cyberwingsblows.com, perhaps as a name?

So, he wants to start an adult hosting company, hire a front man, but run it himself? He even has the lies ready to go in case someone asks the "staff" about the new hosting company.

Yes and that is the saddest thing about this.

It looks like three people receive money orders from Shawn even though he promised certified checks.

2Checkout has done a great job refunding customers. I don't know whether they pulled the money from Shawn's account, used a chargeback reserve or what, but they have really come through.

PayPal refunded two customers the remaining money in Shawn's account. After that dried up no refunds could be given. This meant that if you paid with PayPal funds you were screwed. If you paid by Visa/MC you could dispute the charges.

The problem is that Shawn kept stringing everyone along that the 30 and 60 day dispute period ended for a majority of people.

    That was 100% grade-A ********.

Kind of harsh, aren't you? And who truly the stupid one - the person that has a cheap account that is going (or was until the server went down), or the fool whose providing said account when he knows he isn't covering the bills?

I wonder what the motivation was to be so honest.

I believe this might have been calculated. People are pushing to try to get charges of fraud placed on him. I am no lawyer, but I would imagine that the best defense to someone being fraudulent would be to claim ignorance to proper business practices.

I don't believe it. You don't. But I imagine a court of law might take actions like this letter as a cry for help from a businessman that is over his head and look at it as a a positive move.

He mentions that it wasn't a business, that it was a project that he paid a lot of personal dollars into. Also mentions that he was victim to Lightship's actions due to their being jealous or something..

I think he knew that letter would get out to general public and would help his case against fraudulent charges. Maybe anybody with legal skillsets could comment?

    It was from August 10th.

At that point in this fiasco it was apparent that there were no more than 2 servers coming up out of the 18 he promised. It was also apparent that thre refunds he promised weren't coming.

His cult followers, staff, were rising against him and he needed to do something, so he did.

This was all calculated to keep his inner circle happy. He paid most of them, but three he didn't and cut loose. He still owes them money. Lots of money.

Based on his actions one can surmise that he is A) Sneaky, B) In Denial and C) Looking to do it all over again.

    Funny. Scary.
I became frustrated with my inability to manage. I wasn't sure how to manage, I've never done it before and I guess I just expected that I would know how to do it.
The company will still be in hosting - adult web hosting. I hate to say it, adult web hosting sells. We know how to host, we know the ins and outs of hosting...
Apparently, the inability to manage will not be a factor, once they move into the easy money world of adult hosting; where there is no real competition, no companies ever go under, all of your customers always pay, and your operating expenses are practically nothing.

Yes, the adult hosting business is the land of easy money for those who do not know how to manage!

The whole dilemma is just pathetic.

Imagine a hosting company with a staff that can't do anything. They can't process refunds. They can't set up new accounts. They can't even help get the server up that has been down all day.

What they can do is sit in IRC rooms waiting for Shawn to appear.

They have a couple of folks on staff who could, and should, start their own hosting services. Skilled people who are being held hostage.

Folks, Maine is a small state, I guarantee that if Shawn is still in Maine and if the Maine Attorney General's Office gets a bunch of complaints they will investigate.

I don't host adult hosting, but isn't this the worst idea ever for him? He operated under the basis that people will buy more space and bandwidth than they need with the intention that someday they may use it.

But I can't imagine anything that would move more bandwidth than porn, unless it's warez. So there goes overselling bandwidth...

Should be interesting if he's taken that into consideration.

since I could not tell if you were being sarcastic or not let me rant about adult hosting.

I looked at adult hosting for a while ( spent about 30 days researching ), besides the hate mail from the " moral " people, you get about 12 times as many hacker attempts than a normal server. Your cpu activity ( win platform ) is rather high, Log file review is required consistantly. you have to spend hours preventing spam. Payment system within the industry bad, so you have to set everyone up as prepay and to stop when they hit the limit ( can let them go over becasue they will dump you in a heart beat ).

there si no overselling in that game when it comes to disk space. they will eat every drop of it.

Yeah, Mike, I was being sarcastic. For someone to say in one breath that he is not a good manager and in the next that he's going to make money in the adult hosting business struck me as pretty funny; or at least unbelievably optimistic.

Of course, he prefaces that adult hosting statement by saying "we understand hosting," or words to that effect -- while coming off running a hosting company into the ground, and ignoring that the adult hosting business has very little in common with the dirt-cheap, annual-fee business model of CyberWings.

Maybe the new company will just be totally ingeniously hidden as fraud.com. That way when people are trying to file fraud complaints against Cyberwings.com for the fact they were bamboozled and swindled out of their money, they might mistype the URL and end up at the secret Cyberwings moneymaker numero uno. At this new site, fraud.com, you will be offered the irresistable opportunity of lifetime picture memberships for $3 and reseller opportunities for a $100.

The easiest way to track down what the name of the new adult host is to just look for someone holding a 5x sale over IRC.

Another thing is that a guy who can't even pick a phone to call for a server reboot is going to be vigilant about tracking password hacks - I want to see that one. Free porn for everyone (or at least until the bandwidth bill goes through the roof)...

The e-mail address came from earlier correspondence from him.

Imagine his shock when he got the e-mail ;-)

Anyway, he's full of horse puckey. What issues are they cleaning up? Evidently not the server issues, because the server has been down since 9am CT this morning. That's 14 hours folks. Even if he had to walk to the DC to physically reboot it that is too long.

Right now we are working on many pending issues we have to take care of before we can continue

Yes, it is a personal response from Shawn himself (or so I suspect). I sent it to the same email address used by Shawn on August 10th to send out the memo that you saw on cyberwingsowesmemoney.com yesterday. I"ve already emailed Laurie and others with the email. I've already filed complaints with the Attorney General in Maine(I'm in the process of compiling my paperwork to send up to Maine in response to the paperwork they sent me). I've filed complaints at ripoffreport, and all the other places on Laurie's website, and many others...

I also responded to Shawn's email and asked him to reply to the REFUND issue only, not the rebuild issue. We'll see if he answers. Considering his email address is now public, I wouldn't be suprised if he changes it again, or has already. I'm frankly quite surprised he answered it at all.

I don't expect a reply to my recent email, but here's to hoping...
