Most of the time, (maybe all of the time :-p ), that means addon domains. You can add domains which are based out of subdirectories in your account.

I would say hostgator. In my opinion they are faster, their support is more reliable. Even the owner comes on WHT regularly.

yes, with multiple domains, you can host more than one site with one account.

if I had to choose between the two, I would go with host gator (though I've not used either service).

However, my general recommendation is to stay away from hosts that offer such grandiose space and bandwidth. There's got to be a catch somewhere and in many cases, because of this overselling, servers are slower and apt to go down more frequently.

This doesn't seem to be the case with hostgator, as I've heard they run their servers pretty well, but there have been some problems that have been posted on wht (just do a search).

But of the oversellers on the board, hostgator is the most favored.

i cannot say for sure as i have not done business with hostgator but hostmonster is an excellent choice and you cannot go wrong with them. i highly recommend hostmonster. the plan makes economic sense and their customer service is wonderful as they are fast, helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

    just my opinion.

In my opinion Ty, There are heaps more hosts that are more reliable, But as Host Gator is more of a Common Name people prefer it.

Basically, when you take those plans that offer unlimited domain names, they give your account one, or at the max, two dedicated IP addresses, and all the sites you host on that account get to share the same IP. Not that it is a problem, it is *your* account after all...but consider this scenario...one of the sites on your account gets blacklisted by Google or someone else becoz of blah-blah-blah reasons, ALL the sites on that IP, which means all the sites you are hosting on that account, get a cruel, ignoring look by search-engines....hmm...just a thought...

economic sense? i think it's quite senseless to offer unlimited diskspace for dimes a month.

Hostgator has a slight edge over the other. All those unlimited things become very limited after you start using more than what you paid for. You can have unlimited domains as long as you have very low or preferably no traffic to the site.

It's so easy for a search engine to ban the specific site, that it doesn't make sense to ban IPs unless something totally out of proportion happens. Further, it makes little sense to ban IPs, as sharing the IP is the solution while IPv4 is still king, and it almost guarantees that innocent sites will be affected.

Since most shared hosts put tons of sites on the same IP, I can't believe that a search engine would ban a whole IP and therefore, blacklisting a whole heck of a lot of innocent websites.
