Suggest a host - Wordpress, 10,000 hits
I'm currently hosting my wordpress blog with dreamhost (yuck). It recieves 2000 unique visitors a day, which amounts to about 10,000 page hits per day. Storage is around 2Gb at the moment and monthly usage is about 20Gb however both are likely to increase.
Please suggest what sort of hosting and a provider for me? Budget is pretty much anything (within reason). I would prefer not to spend more than $25 a month but can if the consensus is for something a little bigger. Reliability is important to me so I don't want the site to be down coz I was asleep when the server went down.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi!
Have you installed WP-Cache or Super Cache in your WP?

Those statistics aren't that bad. As Jedito said, make sure that you have some sort of caching installed. Either way, Dreamhost won't provide you with the best database performance.
You have a good budget for what you need and any higher quality host will be fine for you.

Go to a host that is not oversold, has atleast 4 GB or more RAM and a dual core (quad recommended).
At your budget you can go for vps but your main concern is mysql usage. With that sort of hits you would require lots of RAM.

Not really, 2000 visitors a day shouldn't be a problem a regular shared account.

I wasn't running WP-Cache until dreamhost shut down my site and made me put it on! Now I have it running, performance is reasonable (although it varies substantially),down time is not very acceptable.
Can anyone suggest a host? Currently I'm looking at Qoozz or Liquid Web but I have no idea.

MediaLayer is a bit more expensive but is really superb.

I would suggest trying out another shared host. Perhaps a bit more realistic package than your current one.
Don't go to VPS unless you're ready to increase the budget.

Hello,
Try to change host and also, consider a host that allows you in the future to upgrade to a VPS,etc
Also,be sure to check about their server configs.

Just having a look at Media Layer, they seem very expensive for what they offer, $40 per month for 2.5Gb of disk space. Can anyone shed some light on what makes them better than say Liquid Web who offer a similar service for $25 per month. At $40 per month I think I can get a VPS.

MediaLayer's plans are not oversold in any respect. You're paying for a higher level of service there and the price is very well justified.

wp-cache and super cache can be life savers.
I used to host with dreamhost, but their servers were so slow, especially the db that I had to leave. Plus their email servers went down daily for a few minutes at a time regularly. It seems to always happen when I wanted to check my email! LOL

You're paying to be hosted on a high-spec server with expert management and relatively few other clients. Sure you can get a VPS for the same or less money but in terms of both performance and management it will be a downgrade.

A shared plan will do just fine for you. Check out Polurnet or Hawk Host. Their prices are reasonable.
