I am founding an educational NPO whose mission is to offer online course work. Tutorials are stored within the database. The site will be dynamic as users can solve testing problems independently or as a group. Groups are either self-assigned (buddy list) or system assigned. Completed assignments, grades, and dialogue are all saved out to the database.
Let me first say that I do not come from an IT background. I am working on the organizational business plan, in hopes of securing funding for startup, and as the NPO is web driven … heavy weighting to technical commentary must be provided. Selection for board members is not complete and I’m wondering what kind of IT specialist would be the best fit. Also, as we are reliant on funding, is this person our best opportunity to offer free consulting?
BTW, not that this is my forte, but I am guessing the site is to be built with PHP and MYSQL. Any comments tailored to helping non-profits (webdesign, hardware, capacity, etc.) would be most helpful. As the educational user pool is potentially infinitely large, any assistance with scalability will be critical for projections. Thanks, in advance, for the help.
